Morality is personal. There is no such thing as collective conscience, collective kindness, collective gentleness, collective freedom. And Glory “selling paragraph”…

January 29th, 2010 | Category: And Glory, Andrew's Tales, Andrew's non-mythos tales, Books

This is the bit that gets people interested in my forthcoming novel.

The year is 2034. Power lies in Europe with the bureaucrats in Brussels and London is the centre for the Western Provinces.

The Supremo Manipulator of this conglomerate of nations is Pius. With no religious connections and a diminishing hold on power the Union is sustained by nepotism, violence and musical chairs of political appointees. The disintegration of the Union is imminent.

Rob, an English tech nerd together with his accomplice David, have to use their cyborg intelligence to survive in this oppressive Euro society in the Western Provinces. The assassination of Teresa, Rob’s girlfriend, and a busload of tourists along with the murder of a Czech student at Hull European University, provide the catalyst for Rob and David’s dangerous involvement. Together with their minders, Michaela and Kiara, they head full speed into their deadly adventure. Death is catching.

With a touch of humor, a satirical political edge, characters that you come to know well and a flowing writing style take the reader through a techno-thriller deep into the 21st century. We see the ambivalence of the revolutionaries, who never intended serious action, faced with orders to destroy and kill. Europe will never be the same again …

TPN continues to implode

The sponsors started bailing now its the politicians turn Bachmann & Blackburn have pulled their appearances. Palin is the only one left. Does she still think it was a good idea to blow off CPAC for Tea Party Nation? Maybe a bit of consulting of actual tea party activists might have helped her make the right decision.

Update: Even those scumbags in TPE are bailing on it.

New Yorker writer apologises for omitting my name…

January 27th, 2010 | Category: Politics

I was in The New Yorker however the author never bothered to mention me or anyone who was with me. This is despite going on for two paragraphs about it.

The author’s response… on a live chat on New Yorker site. Make of it what you will.

“Ben McGrath: Time for another introduction: Andrew Ian Dodge was one of the “men in black” at the event in Brooklyn where Chris Cassone sang his Tea Party anthem. Andrew is from Maine, and is also a musician. I believe he wrote a song called “Cry Freedom,” and presumably he has written many others.

Andrew, as far as the lyrics go, I think you’ll find that the magazine quotes lyrics all the time, as it quotes poems and other such things, under the doctrine of fair use. (Not that I’m a legal expert, but that’s my lay understanding.) Anyway, I’d say that it’s not that I “couldn’t be bothered” to use your name, but that, at that late moment in the arc of the piece, I didn’t think it made sense to include more names, for the readers’ sake. Call it a creative decision, not unlike the kinds of creative decisions made in writing songs or speeches. Clearly I used many people’s names, so it’s not as though I was trying to slight you for political reasons. That said, I’m sorry, and here’s your belated introduction…”

Backs Of Heads

January 25th, 2010 | Category: Gnotalex, Music

There is a shocking lack of songs dedicated to the romance and mystery that is public transit. I’ve been through the discographies of several bands — Ted Nugent, Bruce Springsteen and AC/DC most recently — and I can find no references to the glories of riding the No. 6 Riverfront Express. In fact the only bus-related songs I can think of are: “Magic Bus,” by The Who (all links open up YouTube videos); “Bus Rider,” which was a minor hit for The Guess Who; ” Bus Stop” by the Hollies (which isn’t really about buses, but we’ll claim it anyway; and Weird Al Yankovic’s parody of “Another One Bites The Dust,” ” Another One Rides The Bus .” And let us not forget The Allman Brothers’ “Ramblin’ Man” which qualifies because of the following lyric:

My father was a gambler down in Georgia
And he wound up out in the wrong in Alabam’
I was born in the back seat of a Greyhound bus
Rollin’ down Highway 41.

So, by my count, I’ve written the sixth-best bus song ever. Of course, I might have missed one or two others, but even so, I’m still in the Top Ten.

Glen Beck maligns the word Holocaust for cheap gain…

January 21st, 2010 | Category: Anti-Semitism/Jewery, The Media/BBC idiocies

Glen Beck trivializes Shoah with an over-the-top name for one of his broadcasts. I don’t care whether its some Dem claiming that the current health care system is a “holocaust” or its this twit sensationalising a show. The Holocaust is not something to be messed about with for political or personal gain. We owe to those that lost their lives and those who survived that much. Its not just any word, its a word that symbolises the deliberate execution of 6 million plus Jews and many others. Right thing people should write Beck and complain for this lapse of judgement (me@glennbeck.com).

Blessing In Disguise

January 21st, 2010 | Category: Gnotalex, Health, Obama, Politics

Jeff Jacoby in the Boston Globe:

[Senator-elect Scott] Brown ran explicitly against Obama’s domestic agenda, above all the radical healthcare overhaul that the president has made his priority. Not long ago, such a strategy would have been dismissed as suicidal. But the harder the administration and congressional Democrats have pushed their health legislation, the more unpopular it, and they, have grown. In Boston on Sunday, it spoke volumes that Obama made not a single direct reference to the healthcare bill he champions - and that Brown promises to oppose.

Tories are scared… of UKIP

January 18th, 2010 | Category: €uropean Garbage, UK Politics, €uropean Neighbours

How can I tell? I read the Conservative blogs quite a bit and there is now a new trend of comparing UKIP to the BNP. Some go as far as to suggest something idiotic like THE ALMOST-ACCEPTABLE FACE OF THE BNP? While others like the more subtle Iain Dale are merely suggesting that they are not as libertarian as they claim because of proposed burka ban.

They want to ban the burka so now they are neo-Nazis (like the BNP)? Is this the tactic against UKIP in the next election? This is the second Tory site I can see that is slandering UKIP by calling them just a slightly more acceptable BNP. This is utter bollocks and bodes badly for the Conservative Party.

So I guess they think Sarkozy is a neo-Nazi as well since he banned the burka in France.

Its clear that Iain and Chris have no idea whatsoever about the burka. It is actually not part of Islam, but something imposted on Muslim women with the abject purpose of oppressing them. There is nothing in the Koran about the burka. I would recommend to both that they read Robert Spencer’s Infidel’s Guide to the Koran.

Surely helping to free British Muslim women from the oppression they suffer in their communities is in fact very libertarian.

If the Conservatives are going to paint the BNP & UKIP with the same brush and try convince people they are on in the same they are going to regret it. The British public are not that stupid. They realise one is a part of neo-Nazi thugs and the other is a party of people concerned about the cost of the UK’s membership in the EU (monetary & sovereign rights).

It is clear to me that this smacks of desperation and shows that CCHQ is very worried about UKIP. As I said before I can see UKIP getting a couple of seats in Parliament, alas I think that is the case for the BNP as well.
