Marty reviews… Dream Theater
Music reviews: Rory Gallagher, Gregg Rolie, Chuck Mosley, Janus & Dream Theater
Incoming Cerebral Overdrive: Converso
Avant-garde prog rock that is not unlike Voivod if a bit more rock than metal. Its one of those release that you will either like or bloody hate. I quite enjoy it in its oddity. Not an everyday listen for sure but rewarding to those with a bit of patience. Prog and intelligent rock needs people to push its limits and these guys take that job on with gusto.
Greg Foresman: Kodiak
This is very much an Americana release with tracks than range from REM-like to straight country (he is Martina McBride’s touring guitarist) so not all of it will be to all tastes. Its certainly an eclectic collection of tunes. He knows how to end the CD however with the sweeping acoustic “Big Sky Country”. If you like outrider or alt. country then you just might enjoy this release. Its one of those that is never really the same twice.

Collect Paper Money for Fun and Profit
Paper money is an exciting collectible. The value of paper money to collectors is much more than its face value printed on the paper. Collectors value paper money for its historical value, outstanding engravings, colors and art. Paper money is a kind of negotiable instrument, a promissory note made by a bank payable to the bearer on demand, used as money. We refer to paper money as a bill, a banknote, currency or simply a note. The study and collecting of paper money and all substitutes for money is called notaphily, whether the money is printed on paper, plastic, cloth, wood, or leather. Notaphily is to paper money collecting as numismatics is to coin collecting and philately is to stamp collecting.
How to Start Collecting Paper Money
There is much help for collectors of paper money. The connectivity of the Internet has made buying, selling and collecting easier. And reliable price guides have been compiled. The most effective way to get paper money is not through general circulation, but through dealers, collectors, auctions, and shows. You’ll find information in periodicals, reference books and collecting associations. The Professional Currency Dealers Association PCDA, is a trade association of about 125 national dealers who buy and sell paper money. The International Bank Note Society publishes a quarterly journal. The Society of Paper Money Collectors SPMC is a national group of collectors both expert and novice that provides information, research and promotion. The society publishes an award-winning bi-monthly journal Paper Money, and sponsors paper money shows around the country.
How Collectors Date Paper Money
The date that appears on all United States paper money is the year when the engraving design was first approved. For example, all $1 United States Notes of Series 1880 were printed from 1880 until 1917. These bills all have the date 1880, and are identified as the 1880 Series, even though they could have been printed anytime over 37 years. On notes since 1928, a letter is added to the series number whenever a small change in the design is made. For example, you might see a $1 bill in Series 2003A.”

“Since I am a stutterer, ladies have always laughed at me whenever I try to talk to them,” he said.
“I have needs, and so I have taken to sleeping with my pillow in my arms ever since I was 16. I have grown to fall in love with it, and I intend to spend the rest of my life with it.”
Mr Ikechukwu also said that, unlike a woman, the pillow would cost him little or nothing to maintain for the rest of its life.
UK to take yer broadband…
In a stunning move, the UK government has succumbed to pressure from record and movie companies. P2P is reporting that this is a craven climb-down which will go against the government’s own aims to spread internet access far and wide.
…, “People who persist in swapping copyrighted films and music will have their internet connections cut off under tough new laws to be proposed by the government,” says the Guardian.
Its no surprise that the Pirate Party has registered itself in the UK. There will be genuine anger about this sort of legislation.
To put it another way this legisation will do the following.
In other words, the Hollywood studios and major record companies will be in charge of targeting British families for prosecution, gathering their own ‘evidence’ for eventual use by UK police and law-enforcement officers whose salaries are, of course, met by British taxpayers.
One more ratchet in the continuing surveliance society that is the UK. The French tried it but it went badly for the law.
A similar law in France under which filesharers could be cut off for up to a year was recently kicked out by the country’s highest court as unconstitutional. In the UK, privacy groups are likely to challenge any similar legislation as contrary to human rights law.
It will be interesting to see if this law stands up to legal challenges.
Update: The leading lights of British pop have come out against this.

Comments are off for this postThis shocking theory was promoted by Lester Coleman, a former member of the US Drug Enforcement Agency, who revealed the supposed existence of a protected drug route that ran between Europe and the US which allowed Syrian drug dealers to traffic heroin in return for providing the CIA with intelligence.
The agency ensured that suitcases containing drugs were not searched by airport authorities, but this backfired on them when the usual contents of the suitcases were replaced with a bomb.
A related theory alleges that the CIA let the attack happen, knowing that two of their agents who died on Flight 103 - Matthew Gannon and Major Charles McKee - had found out about the route and were returning to Washington to expose it.

Start a New Small Business
Best New Business Start Up Ideas
Planning and Opportunities
What will be the next million-dollar idea for a new small business start up? Where will the next big thing come from? Here we take a look at fresh, sizzling ideas for new business start ups.The search for new business ideas is intense, but when a stellar concept takes off, it makes for a great ride.
Yes, there are good new business ideas everywhere you look. The secret of a successful business start-up is to solve a consumer problem, to solve it with finesse and skill, and to develop the tools and knowledge that makes you an authority for the consumer. It helps if the product or service cannot be copied easily, so that there are barriers to future competition. So here we brainstorm new business ideas, planning and opportunities for you.
Start a New Small Business in the Color Green
The first theme of the decade is green. Green covers a broad range of environment-friendly products like organic clothing, natural dyes and non-chemicals, green housecleaning, green office supplies and green lawn care. Green products like aluminum water bottles, energy-efficient light bulbs and low-flow showerheads are already on the market. Green marketing emphasizes the social and environmental impacts of the product as well as its economic value. For both personal health and environmental health, more people are switching to green brands.
One potential lifestyle of the future is the green house, which will allow the consumer to be self-sufficient, to live a life without fossil fuels and to live off the grid. It will have solar panels, a windmill and a desalinization system. The green house of the future could also have a sustainable greenhouse and an environment-friendly waste disposal system.
Cars powered with hydrogen fuel cells, electric motors or bio-fuels will soon be a fact of life. Corn can be used as a source of fuel, and other plants like marsh grass also have possibilities as a source of fuel. What other plant life could be used as a source of automotive fuel? The infrastructure to support these green cars will require many bright new small business start-up ideas.”

1 commentUS should thank Honduras
Tiny Honduras last week handed over a Syrian death merchant to face justice in the U.S. That’s right: The same ‘coup-government’ the Obama administration reviles is one of the very few helping us fight terror.
There is an IBD editorial on this under-reported fact. Honduras could have sent the guy on his way after he finished his time in prison, instead they hustled the Syrian off to the US to stand trial for other crimes. One must hope that the Obama will make sure to mention Honduras’ efforts in the war on terrorism.
Then again the US would have to admit there are ways for Latin American terrorists to get weapons other than from the US. That would make their argument about guns in Mexico (ie they come from the US) look a bit silly now wouldn’t it?
Comments are off for this postBlaney on “progressive” Conservatism
A great read his piece and quite right too. Progressive Conservatism is merely another name for Thatcher’s “wets” and Republican “RINOs”. They are merely the right-side of the centre-left rather than being right-of-centre. They buy into all the socialist assumptions and go at them with a supposedly “right” outlook. Its a load of bunkum that no conservative of any ilk should buy into.

Music reviews: Circle of Fate, Machines of Grace, Theatre of Tragedy, Gary Moore & Beatallica
Quincy Jones: The 75h Birthday Celebration
Part of the Live in Montreux series, this is a Blu-ray of the uber-celebration of Quincy Jones 75 years recorded last year. While all the music on show is probably not to the tastes of most of you readers, some of it quite frankly stunning. Naturally 7 take acapella and beat-boxing to a whole new level. Their performance on here is so impressive my wife, mother and a friend of ours watched it twice to fully take it in. Patti Austin and Curtis Stigers are other highlights, while Nana Mosskouri truly lets the side down with her performance.
Whether or not you like the music Jones has been responsible for, he is quite an amazing talent. The variety of performers at his birthday party make for an interesting evening of entertainment (all 178 minutes of it). And if there is something truly not to your liking there is always the skip button.
The Mandrake Project: A Miraculous Container
This is quite simply a stunning collection of heavily jazz influences progressive rock. It a wonderful soundscape that encompasses all kinds of genres including classical, rock and even some foreign influences. MP is a “collective” of sorts of musicians who wanted to try something different. It will surprise no one that they have shared stages with some of the giants of the modern prog scene. This of them as a modern Return to Forever and you would not be far off. I pleasure to behold whenever you listen. Quite simply a stunning slab of clever, but not self-indulgent, prog.
Yes, I am a bit late reviewing this, there is a reason. I really didn’t want to give up listening to it regularly.
Diana Krall: Live in Rio
This is a lush Blu-ray of Krall playing her best of and those songs that inspired her in front of a crowd of appreciative fans in Rio. As you can imagine its an impressive sight, with its candle-lit tables of ardent fans. Her band is incredibly tight and her voice is on good form. She takes the opportunity to engage in her love of bossa nova. This is a great live jazz DVD that rewards the ears with a wonderful evening you wish you had attended. Its Diana Krall at her very best… very much a worthwhile purchase.
A very nice way, with a glass or two of wine maybe, to spend an evening of music.

How can we, within a space of minutes, feel adult sympathy for a hunted Jewish family and then childish glee when a Nazi’s skull is crushed with a baseball bat? The one cancels out the other.
Via: First Post who have collated the reviews of Inglorious Bastards. I am sure for most people watching a genocidal Nazi die know its not akin to watching the plight of a Jewish family you know who would die, in probably a far worse manner, as they escape.

I never have and never will understand the use of cardboard boxes as a way of displaying the feel of being a robot. Even in old episodes of Star Trek I felt that crappy boxes were used. But at least those boxes were spray painted or something.1 commentI mean I understand that a robot may have some square element to it hence using a box, but when we don’t even decorate the boxes? When we give no feel whatsoever that this is supposed to be a robot we’re dealing with?
Well then you just have a bunch of idiots wearing boxes.
