TCOT no more?

April 30th, 2009 | Category: Politics

I popped over to the TCOT report, as I do, and found TCOT is no more. It seems that its two creators are going their separate ways. Loose coalitions like the tea party movement will always have this kind of events. After all none of us are paid to do what we do and we don’t necessarily see things the same way.

The make-up of those organizing for the 4th will probably be quite a bit different to those organizing on the 15th. Some will drop out of doing the ground-work, like me, and let others take up the cause. I am continuing to help at the state and national level whomever wishes my input and aid.

First hundred report…via the Nuge…

April 29th, 2009 | Category: Politics

With the exception of me armed with a guitar snarling and howling in Motown delight,
I can’t think of another destructive force on the planet as powerful as BO and his Democratic cohorts in Congress. BO’s list of destruction in the first 100 days of our sentence to be governed by him is staggering.

Go read the read the rest from the top “Nugent conservative”, uncle Ted himself, Ted Nugent.

Specter becomes a Dem…while Snowe sinks to new low…

April 28th, 2009 | Category: Politics

Wow, this is a shock…I mean it is…really…I am shocked… the duplicitous little oik will do anything to protect his sorry butt.

“If the Republican Party fully intends to become a majority party in the future, it must move from the far right back toward the middle.” — Sen. Olympia Snowe, R-Maine.”

The loathsome harpie Snowe is envoking Nazism & fascism to criticise those who oppose Specter on the right. She is a political cretin and poisonous to the political process. How dare she say such a vile thing. Its a bit sad when I sitting Senator reverts to Goodwin’s law.

As someone who is of Greek descent she should appreciate what that sort of political philosophy truly entails.

Update: Oh yes, one more thing, I finally get something up on Instapundit and in the next breath Specter leaves the Republicans… my video suddenly gets subsumed in a sea of Specter rants.

Update II; Hotair points out that Snowe fails her own litmus test. Living in her own reality maybe?

Update III: People have objected to the terms I am using in conjunction with Snowe. As far as I am concerned you invoke notions of Nazism when they are unwarranted you deserve what you get. I am sick & tired of socialists and their enablers getting away with calling any opponent a Nazi (aka far-right). If they can’t engage in polite political discourse and wish to invoke 30s Germany, then why should I be polite?

April 27th, 2009 | Category: Music

Like Metallica, I never thought I would do a music video for any of my songs. Like a lot of other things in my life, I should never say never.

I hope you enjoy the video which K T Dodge worked at hard to get right. I am just a performing monkey, its the tea party participants, organisers and K T that make it all worthwhile.

Update: Simon Barrett has written a nice piece mentioning the song as has Driscoll. Glen has kindly linked to the video.

Alan the school owner…

April 27th, 2009 | Category: Education

If Alan had his own private school, obviously a dream of many a reader, he has listed his reading list for the pupils at Henderschool. He also admonished Bill Bennett for the books that he finds more objectionable. Good read the most amusing piece.

Surely the list needs a healthy dose of Lovecraft, Dunsany and Poe for modern literature. Von Claustwitz, Sun Tzu and the complete works of Machiavelli would not go amiss in the non-originally English selection. Fountainhead should be the selection for Ayn Rand, not that bloated novel Atlas Shrugged. The advanced English classes could read a bit of the Marquis de Sade in the higher years. For those who are especially ambitious Don Quixote unabridged (or in Spanish if they are so inclined).

Would in shock anyone to know that I loathed Catcher in the Rye, the Bronte sisters and the rest of the women being miserable list?

New Statesmen realise BNP is far-left…

April 27th, 2009 | Category: UK Politics

Well they still call them neo-fascist rather than national socialist but at least the authors have read the manifesto and realised they are actually far-left not far-right. Read the comments too as they are quite interesting.

It is quite possible the BNP will gain seats in the next round of Euro-elections and expand their base in the local elections. Those that scoff at them should be wary of this tact. Its unhelpful to try and paint the UKIP with the same brush as some, including the Conservatives, have been known to do. This annoys former Tories who vote UKIP and actually helps the BNP.

Sports programs are getting cut at a lot of universities and colleges. Means that people there to study will be less likely to be bullied and mis-treated by jocks. Athletes want to train they should go do it at a sports academy or in the minors. Leave colleges as a place to learn something useful.

EU quiz…

April 24th, 2009 | Category: €uropean Garbage, €uropean Neighbours

Which just a tad pro-European but fun to take anyway. Where they put the BNP on the chart is laughable. As you can imagine if you are not keen on the EU you are no better than the neo-Nazis according to this lot. One has to imagine the motivation behind this chart.

There seems to be no room for thought that you could be against the EU and pro-freedom economic or otherwise. It is rather amusing to see that according to the chart Labour is to the right of the Conservatives. Its a patently pro-EU biased quiz that tries to scare people into being more pro-EU for being close to the BNP.

10 Great Books For (Traumatizing) Children

Cracked:

who-cares-disabled

If you’re not already convinced this book was a terrible idea, try reciting the title at a cocktail party and see if you don’t get beat down. And while the book’s answer to the question is actually “we should ALL care about disabled people,” the people it considers “disabled” include fat kids, kids who huff paint, alcoholics, athletes and child prodigies (you know, because they’re so lonely). Maybe I’m not as tolerant as I could be, but the day I see a drunken, paint-huffing basketball prodigy park in a handicapped spot is the day I get arrested for vehicular manslaughter.

Marty reviews…Suvern rockers slumming as prog rockers?

April 21st, 2009 | Category: Metal, Music, Writing

Music Reviews: The Bakerton Group, Black Crowes, Hanging Doll, The Great Kat, and the To Live is to Die Book
The Great Kat appals, Black Crowes disappoint, while Hanging Doll & The Bakerton Group enthrall.

Some of the stuff that warrants a mention.

Magica: Wolves & Wtiches

Romania female-fronted goth metal that I completely missed last year. There are touches of Dream Theater and, of course, Nightwish & other such bands. The music is quite good with a fantasy theme, loads of over-lapping vocals and epic soundscapes. Despite being named after a Dio album they have truly taken the genre to their core.

I would suggest that Magica are well worth a look if you are into this sort of music. There is just enough originality there to make things interesting. A band to watch that is for sure. Certainly a CD to seek out next time you are in the mood to find something interesting.

Tankard: Thirst

With a name like Tankard and an album title like Thirst you rather know what to expect. Tankard continue their beer-soaked thrash with full gusto. Its damn good stuff and a heck of a lot of fun. This stuff is meant to be listened to loud and preferably in yer cups (rather tankard) with several beers in. Its frat party metal for those that aren’t in frats. It sounds like a medieval piss-up should have sounded like. You get the drift…hopsy thrashy fun.

Esoteric: The Maniacal Veil

This CD slipped down the crack of my pile of CDs. It didn’t deserve that fate. Its proggy atmospheric heavy metal with a touch of blackness. It doomy deathy, but full of quality and talent. In there is the same thing that makes Mastadon tick but with less mainstream attitude. This CD gets better and better with every listen, to the 4 epic tracks. There is nothing here that is for the faint of heart. At the risk of making a groan inducing pun…the music is truly esoteric with its doom tinged with beautiful melody. Its worth the effort.

If you like your doom metal with some brains and talent then this lot of British doom mongers might be the ticket.

Livid: One

Its rare that I get an album I just don’t get. This is one such CD. After a whole spate of quite good young British heavy rock bands I get this release. There is something about that just doesn’t work. Every time I listen I just get the feeling tha I am listening to a long lost Kingdom Come album. I think they were aiming for something a bit more Diamond Head-ish.

I understand this lot are great live but on album there is nothing here. I think it might be the lack of decent songs on the release, not quite sure. It’s a bit like listening to some of the D-list LA bands that were flooding reviewers in-boxes in the 80s.

Justin Hawkins is a fan, then again consideing his current output with the lame named Hot Leg, one has to wonder. They might be great live but Livid on album just don’t cut it. File under…missed opportunity methinks. Who knows maybe I had a dodgey copy of the review CD.

Update: I got this in the email today regarding the Great Kat review:

After reading your ignorant and obviously uncultured review of “Beethoven’s Guitar Shred” DVD, we have deleted you from The Great Kat database and you will no longer receive Great Kat products.

-The Great Kat

Considering the DVD in question has some dubious video that mocks torture of prisoners and the whole Abu Garib saga methinks I am not the one who is “uncultured”; I am relieved I will not longer have to receive crap like the Great Kat’s latest release. Angry PR emails are so much fun.

Joek

April 21st, 2009 | Category: Gnotalex, Humor, Joek

This guy wanted a parrot who talked. He asked the pet store manager if there was a bird who was already speaking.

The manager directed the guy to a bird by the window. “This bird has a vocabulary of 1000 words and another 50 phrases that would fit most occasions.”

The guy bought the bird and took it home. Next day, the guy was back in the pet store to complain. The bird hadn’t said a word.

The pet store manager said, “That’s not unusual. Why not buy a few of the toys the bird had been used to playing with while here and put it in his cage. That should get him more comfortable with his surroundings and loosen him up.” The man paid for the toys and took them home to the bird.

Two days later the guy showed back up. “Still not talking, huh?” asked the manager. “Well, perhaps a birdbath would do the trick.” The credit card was whipped out, the purchase made, and the guy was back home with his new birdbath.

And, like clockwork, two days later the guy was back to complain that the bird STILL hadn’t said one word. This time the shop owner scratched his head and said,

“You know, sometimes the bird would be praised in his training and allowed to ring this bell.” The guy was hesitant, but he really wanted to hear the bird talk, so he reluctantly purchased the bell.

Two days later, the guy was back in the shop. This time the pet shop owner suggested the bird was lonely. The guy was upset that he’d have to purchase ANOTHER bird when the first one wasn’t talking. The pet shop owner told him that, no, he wouldn’t have to do that. Just buy a mirror and trick the bird into thinking he had company.

You guessed.

Two days later, the man was back in the store, this time with the parrot. The parrot was dead.”What happened! Didn’t the bird ever talk?” asked the pet store owner.
