K T writes about Goody…
K T Dodge has a piece up @ Pajamas Media about the positive effects the untimely cancer death of Jade Goody is having on the UK. She speculates on what effect could be made if an American celebrity did something so selfless.

Music Reviews: Doro, 4Bitten, Nightvision, Stratovarius, and Absu
Mythological metal, some estrogen-fueled heavy rock, some pomp and a bit of old heavy rock.
23 Rainy Days: Wonderful Disaster
There is no way in hell this could be called “heavy rock” but it does have some charm. Imagine a band that sounds a bit like Depeche Mode but more so 80s British synth pop. Not as gay as Erasure or Soft Cell, but a similar vein. What is most amusing is that the band hail from Washington,DC not Dullich, London. If they had been around in the 80s they would have been prime Top of the Pops fodder. Basically if you have a hankering for something fluffy and synth heavy this is a new band for you. Then again it put a smile on the face of at least one denizen of the 80s that I share a house with.
Geisha: Dei Verbrechen der Liebe
This is dark impenetrable odd rock in the vein of the Melvins et al. 6 tracks clocking in at over an hour that never let up or give you pause for thought. The title is inspired by de Sade if you must know. You have to be in the right mood or it but if you are…well you are in for a treat.
Noism: +/-
They are Japanese and as odd a band as you can imagine. This is industrial metal at its most extreme in a manner which is indescribable and inescable all in the same instant. A band for the brave however if you are into such things quite an intriguing journey. They are called Noism after all.
Black Elk: Always a six Never a Nine
Think noise rock ala Jesus Lizard and the ubiquitous the Melvins. Never a clone, but you still need something to compare it to. Think of a bit like a heavy heavy sludged out version of psychedelia and you might be getting rather close.
And finally in this short blast of noise rock oddness.
Gore: Hart Gore + Mean Mans Dream
Said to be an influence on many of the bands listed above this is a re-issue of the band’s first two albums. It includes a full 23 bonus live tracks to the original releases so great value for the fan. This lot don’t even bother with a singer and produce wall of sound like instrumental heaviness that penetrates the mind in rather strange ways. Southern Lord have done a great job bringing these influential instrumentalists back right now.

Over @ PJM Henry Gomez writes about his battle to counter the ignorance about Cuba that pervades the left. Even though I am not the offspring of Cuban refugees, I know enough of them, and I feel his frustration. Cuba has not been “free of capitalist tyranny” its suffering enslavement under the yoke of totalitarian dictatorship.

Unless you have been living under a rock or only have access to left-wing media, you might have heard about Dan Hannan, an MEP from Southern England who has become an internet sensation for his polite but pugilistic takedown of British Prime Minister Gordon Brown while he was visiting the European Parliament.

Comments are off for this postHope for UK: Dan Hannan MEP
Dan tells a few home truths to Gordon Brown.
It should be Dan that leads the Conservative Party into the next election not the stuff-shirt flap in the wind David Cameron. Dan is the brightest speaker and politician of his generation of Conservatives. (Though Douglas Carswell MP comes close.) There are bright well-spoken leaders in the Conservative Party, lets hope, for all our sakes they get a chance soon.
The “rant heard round the world” is finally getting attention in the UK after being precipitously ignored by the UK media. Hannan did a great job on Cavuto, on Fox, last night. The Wets in the Tory Party must be hysterical that he is getting so much air time.
Found via DK me ole’ mate and graphic designer to the best in blogging.
Hannan is on with Derek Draper, who is fresh from battling Guido on the Daily Politics. Needless to say “unbiased” Channel 4 lays into Hannan and invites Labour hacks to do the same.
Via: Iain.
Here is his interview with Cavuto; just a tiny bit less biased that the Channel 4 abomination above.
Even The Sun has noticed Hannan’s great fame.
And we have the transcript for those wishing to read along.
1 commentCan you fix the Philly budget?
Go have a go and see how well you do. I managed to cut the budget deficit and made it a surplus of over $100mil which isn’t that bad. (The email I send my mother was a bit slow arriving.) Wish there were a few more choices on some of the questions but it was a good exercise.

Comments are off for this postCapitalism the devil?
Well according to Nick Cohen, in First Post, Labour sold “its soul.” Those without such a jaundiced eye towards capitalism might just have a few more clever suggestions as to why the UK economy is in the tank. Labours debt-fueled spending spree on socialist programs might have something to do with it.
