Republicans the new punks?

I have written about this in the past. Heavy metal and some forms of hard rock are libertarian but quite a few are libertarian conservatives like Ted Nugent and others.
Mainstream rock has been very left-wing establishment (whether in the UK or the US) for a long time. Obama (and Blair in the UK) were just the most obvious and overt examples of it in recent memory.
