How about a bit of Yardbird?

Category: Metal, Music, Writing

You may wish to include this version, with excerpt:
Music Review: The Yardbirds, Hades, Land of the Minotaur, Kreator, Ross the Boss, Sinner, Ephrat, & Karmakanic
Ross the Boss, through prog-ville via Hades to watch Yardbirds.

And here is a bit of extra stuff. I might add a few more below in the next few days.

Yahowa 13: Sonic Portation

If you are into odd and bizarre experimental jazz folk chanting whatever then this lot might interest you. Big in SoCal during the 60s they were devotees (ie: in a cult) of a guru who was a fight ace. This is mad stuff with names like “Raga Nova” and “Big Kundalini.” Is it any good? I have no idea because I cannot ingest enough substances to make it seem plausible in any way shape or form. Truly nutty stuff that will confuse and maybe even enthrall. Not good, not bad…just well and truly odd.

My mate over at BNN has reviewed and interviewed Los Disfuntos. The CD does not really fall under the MMM remit but I highly recommend his interview with the band and review of the CD.

As I have had not power from the mains (only generator), no internet and phone four several days I dove into the pile of discs I have gotten to review. This time I tried to slap a few in that I didn’t recognise. Below are the four reviews that result. Two of them are by “singer-songwriters”, at least they weren’t women trying to outwhine Alanis.

Zack Nichols: Bright Eyes EP

Whiney heart-felt vocals over acoustic guitars with all the coffee house feel you would ever want. I avoided this sort of stuff when I was at university and have no interest in listening to it now. Thank god its was only five tracks and it was painful to listen to. This guy would be loved by people who like that bloke who tortured us with “Have a Nice Day,” James Blunt. If you have any testosterone avoid this CD like the plague. You aunty will probably love it though.

Jared Campbell: Beyond the Grey

I think with this title he is trying to be ironic because grey is the feeling this CD gives me. Dull samey music that like the above will be loved by women who like watching early Saturday evening “entertainment” shows. No its not bad but its nothing to get excited about either.

Competent music but dull to these ears.

Midatlantic: The Longest Silence

Not I wont make a snide remark based on the title. Let’s just say that you would love this CD if you are into U2 and any of their Irish/American/Irish-American copyists. Not bad musicians but nothing special on here to get excited about. Midatlantic is middle-of-the-raid fodder. Stuck between Ireland and the East Coast of the US…they are all wet.

Copper Sails: Hiding Place

You might have heard one of their tracks if you watch ESPN’s baseball coverage “Sleeping Giants”. And to me this lot are about as exciting as watching baseball. Make that of what you will. For those people who like plods like Snooze (aka Snow) Patrol, Radiohead at their dullest (ie not “Creep”) and other bands of a siimilar ilk. Yes they play well but its just dull as dishwater.

In response to listening to this lot I had to purge my ears by listening to something with some balls…Within Temptation live did the trick. The DVD version of the tracks sounds far better than the CD for some reason.
