Drilling debated

June 12th, 2008 | Category: Politics

The debate in Congress over more refineries and nuclear-power plants; drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and off our coasts; and developing oil shale, tar sands and liquid coal has been a predictable soap opera: Grasping Republicans supposedly wish to enrich energy companies, while idealistic Democrats want only to protect the environm

Well done David Davis

June 12th, 2008 | Category: UK Politics

David Davis, a man I supported for the leader of the Tory Party, has resigned as an MP over the 42 days vote yesterday. He is holding a bye-election to make the issue of the security state the focus. It shows that there are still a few MPs with principles. This effort and extreme measure really makes Tim look a bit foolish. The fact there are any Tories (a certain Catholic fascist) who support 42 days is a disgrace.

The Lib Dems are even doing something right by not standing anyone against David Davis in the bye-election. Much though Clegg is scorned; its good to see him lead his party in something that is actually a liberal act.

More over at Blaney’s on the subject. There is an interesting thread on ConHome mostly in support of DD. One has to wonder if ConHome, considering their stance on 42 days, will do in regards to supporting DD in his bye-election.

The timing of this announcement, near to the anniversary of the Magna Carta, shows both wisdom and class.

There is Facebook group in support naturally.

The Press on the other hand is not so impressed but are intrigued.

David Davis in his own words explains his action.

Why Big Oil is not to blame for fuel prices

June 12th, 2008 | Category: Politics

We should let Big Oil make its mega-bucks, re-invest in new drilling techniques and pursue formerly difficult-to-extract oil reserves…Nature’s Greenback will do what it has always done: adapt, moving elsewhere until the derricks are dismantled…

Rather than support their party’s candidate, they find reasons why it would be better for them not to vote at all, and thereby let the opposition candidate win.”
