‘Broadband tax’ could fund TV news bulletins
You knew this was coming. TV viewing is way down as people are on the internet. So what do broadcasters in the UK do? Make better programs to attract people back? Oh no, they want a tax on broadband to make up for all the advert revenue they are losing.
Typical broadcast mentality; if they can’t hack it they whine to the government for help. Needless to say Sky thinks this is a daft idea.

Quite.

As you may or may not already be aware, members of the Watcher’s Council hold a vote every week on what they consider to be the most link-worthy pieces of writing around… per the Watcher’s instructions, I am submitting one of my own posts for consideration in the upcoming nominations process.
Here is the most recent winning council post, here is the most recent winning non-council post, here is the list of results for the latest vote, and here is the initial posting of all the nominees that were voted on.

Over here, we nearly killed PBS about thirteen years ago. Big Bird survived. That attack was premature. Now, there is absolutely no justification for public television or the Federal Communications Commission, for that matter. Not that I don’t enjoy some of the PBS programming, but I’d certainly be willing to pay for it via cable programming. I would have thought, leave it to a natural death, but now it appears the Brits to propose feeding the poor dying ogre with the blood of young Jack. Might happen here. We need to blow Big Bird out of the sky and we need to do it now.
