The peculiar theology of black liberation
Senator Barack Obama is not a Muslim, contrary to invidious rumors. But he belongs to a Christian church whose doctrine casts Jesus Christ as a “black messiah” and blacks as “the chosen people”. At best, this is a radically different kind of Christianity than most Americans acknowledge; at worst it is an ethnocentric heresy.

Health and safety uber alles!
Foremost among these are NO SMOKING signs, of which there is a deluge. Placed at eye level right on the door of a pub, literally ‘in my face’, they’re an invitation not to “Come on in!” but to “Fuck off!”. Inside are dozens more, the idea, apparently, being that if I do a 360-degree turn, I should never lose sight of one.
Joe Jackson on nannying signs so prevalent everywhere in the UK today.

Halo in Church Issue Resurrected
GamePolitics readers will likely recall last October’s controversy over whether Halo 3 and other violent games were appropriate material for church youth groups. The issue eventually reached a ridiculous climax with a staged Fox News trashing of video games. With the Easter season underway, the issue has now been revisited by The Baptist Standard.

Massachusetts Legislators Consider Games-as-Porn Bill
Legislators in Massachusetts will hold a hearing Tuesday on a bill that would treat violent games like smut. That is, it would be a crime to sell them to a minor. Jack Thompson originally advised the state on the bill in 2007. It is similar to Thompson’s Louisiana bill that was declared unconstitutional in 2006. So why is Mass wasting time with it?

Another crock of shit from NICE
GPs see an enormous number of patients with bowel problems. The difficulty – and believe me it is difficult – is sorting the chuff from the chaff. Of making sure that a patient who might have bowel cancer is properly screened but also of making sure that the colo-rectal clinics are not flooded with unnecessary referrals.

Re: Walk Away
I only had the first two verses, so wound up repeating them. A third verse was needed, explaining that, say, while the character desperately craved his freedom, and yearned to break free, he was unable to do so; because, he was presently shackled to the furnace. For instance. This would immediately create “dramatic tension,” and ignite in the mind of the listener many important (and perhaps, unsolvable) questions, such as:
a) Who chained the singer to the furnace? and,
b) Isn’t that a violation of the Building Code? and,
c) How much did I pay for this album, anyway?
Having said that, this was one of the more melodious and well-crafted things we did, helped out in no small part by my cousin’s very pretty and understated guitar solo. In fact we hit it nearly perfectly (never mind the two false starts), so much so that I became excited and overloaded the mike at the end. That would explain that thumping sound you hear on fade-out—me whacking myself in the forehead with the microphone when I realized my mistake. (There’s a similar “effect” in the last song, “Fashion Patrol,” but it’s unclear what set me off that time.).
Never let it be said that I haven’t suffered for my art.
