Security Breach At Heathrow Airport

Category: Politics

A man with a rucksacks has run into the path of an aircraft at Heathrow Airport – sparking a major security alert.
He jumped the perimeter fence shortly after 2pm and was tackled by armed officers on the northern runway.

Yet again Heathrow security forget the big black things they are carrying are guns. Can they be any more useless?

Lucky he wasn’t ingested by one of those ubiquitous Airbus engines, rucksack and all. Most realistic death on TV I ever saw was the scene in episode one of Lost where the guy gets sucked off his feet and ingested. Seen it happen once IRL in FSU. Rather shocking to one’s sense of fairness and belief in a God with anything other than a truly puckish sense of humor. Nothing quite like wiping a colleague off one’s glasses to send you to the bar.

I guess this would also be a good place to point out that, for similar reason, should you ever have occasion to evacuate a wing-engine configured airliner (e.g., 737, 777) via the wing exits or otherwise than the normal egress point, it is considered poor form and rather unhealthy to wander toward the leading edge. Likewise, for those evacuating a rear-engine configured aircraft (e.g., 727, DC-10, IL-62), an exit via the rear door on tarmac or otherwise while engines continue to spool can result in quite an amusing misadventure. Some investigators suspect D.B. Cooper became plane feed in just such fashion, despite exiting via the rear ramp at a lower height. I am not, however, among them, as no damage was reported to any engine of that 727 and Mr. Cooper would have made quite an impression.
