Dodgey column: Is there a cure of Obamaitis?

I must say that Obamaitis is one of those things, that occasionally happens in politics, that completely bemuses me as a political observer of many years. You have seemingly rational people of all political persuasions all wrapped up in something and seemingly not caring that it goes against all logic. It does not matter that their support and encouragement seems against everything they believe and their own internal logic.

Barack Obama evokes this sort of lunacy in seemingly sane men and women both domestically and abroad. A cynic like me is able to have some enjoyment by challenging these people about what the man stands for or what of his policies they like.

The Conservative Party in the UK seems to be suffering from Obamaitis, with even the normally very sensible Dan Hannan MEP writing a gushing piece about the man. Never mind that Obama is about as far away politically on the left as one can get from the Eurosceptic MEP. You have political pundits in the UK and Europe writing pieces which seem to imply that the only real choice in the next election in the US is between a woman and a black man. They seem to make a great effort to avoid even mentioning the Republicans.

The press in the US and abroad are keen to make comparisons between the man and Kennedy. They seem to claim he is almost the reincarnation of that Democrat icon. Of course, when you really look at Obama he is the reincarnation, even though the person is not dead, of another Democrat. Albeit an reinvention with more brains, charisma and talent.

I am referring to the last outsider candidate touted by the Democrats to go to Washington and clean it up. One Jimmy Carter, that Georgian disaster of a President. He too had few policies that anyone knew about and went on ad nauseum about change. The fact the man was, and still is, one of the countrys worst ever Presidents should worry the sane in this election.

Of course , the fact that those who suffer Obamaitis can still call the man an outsider candidate after his appearing on stage with Ted Kennedy and most of the rest of the clan is downright laughable.

Oprah, a very clever and successful woman, claims its not about the fact that Obama is black but the fact that he is brilliant. I have to wonder just what is so brilliant about Obama? I mean what different policies, from the normal left Democrat ideas has he come up with? What are his radical ideas that will change things? Or is he just another socialist who wants to redistribute taxpayers money and assure the US goes into recession?

Oh and one more thing; Obama seems to think a big get together with Muslim nations to have a good bash at Israel is a good idea for his White House. Yet another thing he seems to share in common with Carter. Let s hope and pray that he does not take Carter on as an advisor if Obamaitis carries on into the autumn and Obama wins the general election.

Like any disease Obamaitis is dangerous to all. Lets hope people collectively get over their malady before its too late. Questioning the viability of Obama does not mean you are racist it just means you combine some sanity with your politics.

Update: Hit & Run find some policies and they are not encouraging. Charles Krauthammer has written an equally discouraging piece that thinks the end of Obamaitis will be a rude awakening for all affected. Good piece on Powerline as well; so does Victor Davis Hanson.
