Iowa…important why?
Is it just me or does it seem odd that a bunch of insular happy-clappy farmers get all this attention from the worldwide media. Surely its a bit of a danger to have these people be so influential on who gets selected for President. To me the fact that they have given any time whatever to Pastor Huck worries me. Do those nitwits not realise that Huck getting the nomination would almost assure a Democrat taking the White House? Don’t they realise that not everyone is an evangelical loon like they are?
And have you looked into the system they use to pick the winner? The Republican one is a bit silly but the Democratic caucus is just insane. Why can’t Iowa get with the 21st century and just have a primary. Do they really think its sensible? Or are they just annoying deliberately. I personally think its great that Guiliani has ignored Iowa. Lets hope its a trend.
One good thing is that NH is so soon after Iowa. New Hampshire is a far more sensible and intelligent state. They actually realise there is a world outside the US.
I find it really sad that a state that sums up what most foreigners think of Americans (fat, ignorant, isolationist, fundametalist Christian, self-obsessed and keen on government handouts) is allowed so much power in the selection of the nominee.
At least tonight its all over. Lets hope there is no clear winner on either side. Then everyone can see just how ludicrous the whole Iowa truly is in the end.
Update: TCS has a great explanation of the whole palava.
No commentsEarth is not warming right now
The period 1980-98 was one of rapid warming – a temperature increase of about 0.5 degrees C (CO2 rose from 340ppm to 370ppm). But since then the global temperature has been flat (whilst the CO2 has relentlessly risen from 370ppm to 380ppm).

Continuing the quote:
This means that the global temperature today is about 0.3 deg less than it would have been had the rapid increase continued. No comments
Islamophobia? Try Jewophobia more like…
In 2006, a whopping 66% of religiously motivated attacks were on Jews, while just 11% targeted Muslims, even though the Jewish and Muslim populations are similar in size. Catholics and Protestants, who together account for 9% of victims, are subject to almost as much abuse as Muslims in this country.

Libertarian Party UK
After much discussion and faffing about; the UK finally has a proper Libertarian Party of its own. Of course they have a website and its clean running well. Obviously whomever designed it knows their stuff when it comes to doing a website; unlike many of the major parties. We shall see if they can make any headway. However its good to see a proper party for libertarians in the UK.
