Unlocking iPhone is legal
Tim Wu, a legal expert, writes in Slate that unlocking your iPhone to use with other carriers is not only legal; but fun. He agrees that so far its a might bit complicated for normal phone users. However I suspect that this will change soon; especially once it hits the UK and the rest of Europe.

War on Halloween
Reason is reporting on moves to get it renamed “Fall Festival” as not to offend those of a delicate disposition or a religious one. I wonder if these pinheads realise that “All Hallow’s Eve” is a religious festival and a pagan celebration of autumn going back for millenia. Killjoys whether secular or religious really are a pain aren’t they?
No commentsPlug yer blog offline?
“Obviously we all do our share of blog promotion online through directories, traffic sites, forums, contests, social networking sites, etc. But do you do anything to promote your blog offline, in the “real” world? I have always had vague plans to do so, but something always got in the way. What was it…oh yeah…laziness.”
I have had my url on my calling card since I had a blog. I do get people hitting my blog from handing out my cards. Have gotten a few writing gigs that way as well.

Arr! fun
part of the fidius.org network
It probably would not surprise many of you to hear there is a Pirates of the Carribean MMORPG being developed. They are doing it for the Mac and I might be part of the next stage of beta.
1 commentNeed some cedar furniture?
Cedar, the wood that smells nice as a tree and is rather good to make furniture from as well. Cedar is long lasting, looks great with a bit of age and its smell has some affect on the bugs that bother one when you are trying to site outside on a lovely winter’s evening. I just finished spending much of the afternoon with my derriere on a cedar chair; writing, reading and generally enjoying the New England autumn. Cedar is popular for patio furniture here in New England for lots of reasons; including the ones above.
While not technically in New England, Cedar Store has a great selection of cedar ourdoor furniture at internet prices. Of course one of the nice things about this site is the fact you can actually talk to a live human if you feel the need. This is reassuring when you are making a purchase that should last you for quite a long time. They also offer free shipping to the lower 48 US states. The site is well laid out and easy to use; allowing you to get the info you need and purchase the outdoor furniture you want at a good price.
3 commentsMicrosoft & Bungie divorce?
Appleinsider is reporting that Bungie is leaving Microsoft because MS is dominating the company. Well that was obviously always going to happen; we all knew it when Bungie sold out the Mac became part of Gates’ empire. We shall see if Bungie will renew its interest in the Mac…wonder how they will bribe us to take them back…an updated modern Marathon mb?
Conservatives must reject Capitalism?
Philip Blond concludes that capitalism is not compatible with Conservatism. I have no read such a complete load of tosh in a rather long time. Its Cameron’s drift to paternalism from capitalism that has seen the party suffer so much in the last few months. Socialism light is still socialism; no matter whether the excuse for it is the enviroment or any other daft reason.
I think the Tories might want to prevent Zac from doing interviews. He did one with Telegraph TV where he said “enviromentalism is Conservative.” Its always helpful to see his brand of envirofascism being trumpeted as being a Conservative ideal. This is the man that wants to make travel abroad so expensive less well off families can’t afford it. He is the one that wants to discourage people from going to the supermarket by taxing their parking spaces. Yeah way to attract the working class Tory vote back there you nitwit.
Speaking of idiocy; Peter Cuthbertson rightly takes Simon Burns MP to task for alarmingly daft call for Tories to welcome a Hilary Clinton Presidency. I bet there are a lot of young Tories who are going to welcome such statements as they attempt to get gigs working for the various Republican Presidential campaigns. Not as daft as the Conservative Future/Alan Duncan publically endorsing Kerry last time but close.
I would be weary of hiring any CF members if I were an American Republican Campaign unless they have very good references; preferably from a Republican in London who knows them.
Our fave UKIPer DK was not impressed not unsurprisingly.
Simons doesn’t know what Cameron stands for either: so he has a few questions.
A bit sane analysis of the state of play by Mary Riddel.
1 commentBelize adventures
While my adventure holiday days are over, having had enough of it at various tripping camps in my teens. I have friends who take out their frustrations of city living and working by going to places like Belize to jungle trek. A mate of mine related this tale of his adventure travel.
They spent a week at the Chaa Creek resort in the Belize jungle hiking around in tropical heat attempting to better each other. A group of Londoners who work in the City of London had gone all together and had a cracking time by all accounts. Scrapes, bruises and various bites didnt seem to deter this lot from getting the best out of their holiday pretending to be explorers. Bravado and bragging rights push them along something fierce.
Back in London we were regailed with tales of darying do for months once any of them had a few down their gullet at the pub. They were truly convincing they had a good time.
Organised adventure travel is probably the best these days. For instance the Guatemalans might take exception to some tourist from Belize wandering into their territory. There are still great adventures about these days; and Belize is a great place to have one such experience.
I would like to return to Belize some day soon.
