Conservative Party Conference…07
As many of mates are heading off to bloody dire lovely Blackpool for the next few days I admit to be a bit conflicted. I do not envy the long trip to the North, the crap rooms, the poor food or the utterly trite location. I don’t miss the mostly awful weather, its love 70 and sunny here, nor the constant threat of rain.
I however admit to missing the fringe events, such that they are this year, and of course, the late nights in the Conference Hotel. Watching young male Tories not realise they are being hit on by the bloke next to them is good for hours of amusement. Watching the drunken antics of various self-important types is fun as well; ditto trying to figure out the potential affairs beginning at one in the morning.
Politically it will be fun to watch the leadership attempt to paint a positive picture despite the 10+ points behind recent polls. It will be amusing to watch them scramble to re-envigorate their base seriously naffed off base and former voters. Their desperation to fill the remaining seats will amuse as well. Oh yes and there is always the David Davis supporters smugly watching the party go down in flames with the guy everyone but them picked for leader.
Oh yes one more tip. Make sure not to leave yer car keys with the front desk of the hotel as they are likely to take your car for a joy ride if you have anything decent.
Will it be the bitter end of the fling with the political bimbo Cameron? Or will it be a reaffirmation of love for him to take the final walk into oblivion?
As you may or may not already be aware, members of the Watcher’s Council hold a vote every week on what they consider to be the most link-worthy pieces of writing around… per the Watcher’s instructions, I am submitting one of my own posts for consideration in the upcoming nominations process.
Here is the most recent winning council post, here is the most recent winning non-council post, here is the list of results for the latest vote, and here is the initial posting of all the nominees that were voted on.
