EA (Mac) game support?

September 30th, 2007 | Category: Games

Are they just completely incompetent or do they just not care? I summited a query why Need for Speed: Carbon crashes more that Lindsey Lohan behind the wheel of her car and got no response. What was ironic is that I was sent a satisfaction survey by them after they failed to do anything about my query. As far as I can tell EA could give a damn about the Mac and are just popping stuff out for the platform for a laugh.

Games are getting a hammering on Apple.com as well; except for the inevitable fan boys giving it a 5 to jones up the rating. My initial impressions are NFS: Carbon is a buggy mess, Battlefield has a high learning curve (no tutorial for instance) that gets dull quickly and C&C:3 (after update) is by far the best of the three.

Update: NFS: Carbon is one of the few programs that hard crashes OSX that is really some achievement.

Need a place in Berlin?

September 30th, 2007 | Category: Stuff

I suspect many of you have been a position where you are suddenly expected to move somewhere to work with little notice; having to up sticks and sort yourself out in a strange city. Its even more fun when its a foreign city. You might be looking Berlin apartments and unsure where to start. Well, unlike in days of old, there are some good internet pages to give you all the info. No fluff, just the info and the help you need. Its a clean and clear site well worth checking out no matter how long you need a place for.

Conservative Party Conference…07

September 30th, 2007 | Category: UK Politics

As many of mates are heading off to bloody dire lovely Blackpool for the next few days I admit to be a bit conflicted. I do not envy the long trip to the North, the crap rooms, the poor food or the utterly trite location. I don’t miss the mostly awful weather, its love 70 and sunny here, nor the constant threat of rain.

I however admit to missing the fringe events, such that they are this year, and of course, the late nights in the Conference Hotel. Watching young male Tories not realise they are being hit on by the bloke next to them is good for hours of amusement. Watching the drunken antics of various self-important types is fun as well; ditto trying to figure out the potential affairs beginning at one in the morning.

Politically it will be fun to watch the leadership attempt to paint a positive picture despite the 10+ points behind recent polls. It will be amusing to watch them scramble to re-envigorate their base seriously naffed off base and former voters. Their desperation to fill the remaining seats will amuse as well. Oh yes and there is always the David Davis supporters smugly watching the party go down in flames with the guy everyone but them picked for leader.

Oh yes one more tip. Make sure not to leave yer car keys with the front desk of the hotel as they are likely to take your car for a joy ride if you have anything decent.

Will it be the bitter end of the fling with the political bimbo Cameron? Or will it be a reaffirmation of love for him to take the final walk into oblivion?

As you may or may not already be aware, members of the Watcher’s Council hold a vote every week on what they consider to be the most link-worthy pieces of writing around… per the Watcher’s instructions, I am submitting one of my own posts for consideration in the upcoming nominations process.

Here is the most recent winning council post, here is the most recent winning non-council post, here is the list of results for the latest vote, and here is the initial posting of all the nominees that were voted on.

Overambition? Dog style

September 30th, 2007 | Category: Amusements, Dogs

We were all rather shocked, including her mistress, to see wee Jolie arrive on the porch with Vera’s predecessor Stella’s rawhide bone. To say watching her run around with it was amusing on this autumn day is an understatement. She doesn’t seem to realise or care she is so small. She wanted to chew that bone so she did.

Another friend of the family put on her most pathetic look for the camera.

Then again if you are talking overachieving; check this Dachsund’s digging prowess. It wanted a bone and dug up a Mammouth of a bone.

Tories out of touch…like an AK47

September 29th, 2007 | Category: UK Politics

This quote accurately sums up the state of the Conservative Party right now. It shows very little grasp on reality.

Nadine Dorries, one of the MPs who rebelled over grammar schools, said: “David was in control and shot down every recycled announcement Gordon Brown had made in his speech. He did it with AK47 accuracy and no notes just raw anger, which was impressive.

He did it with AK47 accuracy AK47s are notoriously inaccurate; more spray and pray than actual accuracy. Yes you can hit the barn, but that is about it. This MP seems to have nailed it pretty well, the dire situation her party is in, and without even knowing it.

Anthony King puts an eloquent touch to the universal belief that the Tories are f**ed.

There are some who are saying Camoron is the Conservative’s Neil Kinnock. I think their Michael Foot would be a bit more exact.

Well this is the game for you…its called World in Conflict but its basically Red Dawn the game. You get to kill commies who have invaded the US. And, no doubt, you will be shouting, if you are a certain age “Wolverines!” No word on a Mac release but they do seem to awknowledge our existence on the site.

Unusual design

September 29th, 2007 | Category: Blog gos

Designing a site in general and your site specifically is always a bit tricky unless you are a designer by trade. You want something that is not too complicated or turgid so it runs well and is user friendly. Yet at the same time you still want the site to be something that is distinctive that separates you from the rest of the rapidly expanding pack. Content makes a lot of difference as well, of course, but the design of your website can be equally good at attracting an audience.

There are many times when blogs are linked to by other bloggers merely because they have changed the design of their site. This blog included. Naturally with bloggers you will know what they think of the new layout rather quickly.

In that quest to do something special and interesting with your design a reliable source of tips helps. As with everything on the web; someone has been there and tried/done that before you. There will be someone who can tell you what not to even bother trying and what really works. Not using those resources is both silly and a waste of time. We all are busy people and time is not exactly an ever expanding commodity.

Cameron seeing sense?

September 28th, 2007 | Category: UK Politics

In the lead-up to next week’s Conservative Party Conference in Blackpool Cameron & Co are in full panic mode now that they are a full 11 points behind in some polls. DK reports that they might have seen sense on the death tax and are planning to abolish it. This is, of course, a bit of a volte face from the Cameroonies as I have been lectured more than once by loyalists that the death tax is a “minor issue” and “not important”. There are reports all over the place that Cameron is attempting to claw back the heamorraging of their base in the last few months.

I am glad I am not going to have to schlep my way up to Blackpool this year. That said I am sorry to see some of my politico hack mates in full flow in the Conference Hotel bar. Needless to say I have my sources there so expect a few reports from the front lines.

Need good hosting?

September 28th, 2007 | Category: Technology

Are you looking for website hosting that is inexpensive and reliable? As with anything else online it pays to look around when finding website hosting, this is especially true if you are a blogger about to move from blogspot to yer own host. I am in the market for a good host for my wife’s blog so I am looking around right now. If you are in a similar search as I am then might I recommend Mysite.com as a potential host? With their reasonable prices and varied hosting packages they are the perfect host for a blogger. The packages start at $0 a month (with their adverts) and raise due to your need.

We shouldn’t enjoy the implosion of Britney but we all do. Well except for that bird on YouTube whose rant got her a gig on TV in the US. What has been most amusing is all the reporters flocking to Britneytown aka her hometown so they can get ear-bashed by some local old dear about press treatment if “their” Britney.

Die Hippie Aliens…a tale

September 28th, 2007 | Category: Andrew's non-mythos tales

Hi allI am sorry this is a bit noisy as we are taking heavy fire from the bad guys. He paused and adjusted his boom mic; while reloading his gun.

The mood here is quite upbeat actually. We know this is a diversionary tacticwell attacking the entire fu er damn planet is a diversion. He paused to duck, at least we know the planetary union knows that and are kicking some major alien arse.

Die you (bleep) hippies alien scumbags! David screamed next to him. Marty was relieved that he had used the auto-bleep function. He wanted to make sure the podcast would go out to as many people as possible. No one gave a damn on Libetarium, but some of the rest of the worlds were more uptight.

Oi watch your damn language I am doing a field report going union wide! Making sure no one forgets our sorry arses here on the front line! Marty smiled as he chewed out his mate.

We know that they are aliens because that last time we checked Sugar Magnolia, that is the hippie planet, is not full of technology that would allow metal reinforced exoskeletons. One of the lads brought along a nice grenade launch and nailed one of the bastards in the chest. His head landed up in someones lap who discovered the spinal column attached was metal.

When these idiots landed they were yelling Peace man! on their ships loud hailers while firing their weapons and everything that moved. Considering the entire planet is armed with at least one weapon it was not long, a few seconds before they got return fire.

This planet is bristling with heavily armed well trained personal protection advocates who spend their time trawling through surplus sales to get whatever they can from where ever. Tanks, helicopters and whatever can be found somewhere on this planet. There are guys and gals grinning from ear to ear as they get to try out their toys.

He continues: yes, we have taken casualties, but everyone is still upbeat. We take the well trained militia thing serious on this planet. Its voluntary but you would be hard pressed to find anyone who has nothing to do with it.

Marty holds up his assault rifle to his eyes and the camera on his head. This lovely piece of kit does bugger all against the bastards but it does keep them at bay. Its the guys with the heavy weapons getting the kills. Am I bitter? Yeah a bit, but we are all in this together right.

Camera pans to ground for a few seconds. Debris showers around.

Oh lovely it seems Bubba has got his squadron of fighters to the battle. This is going to get fun now.

The audio gets a bit scratchy. Oi Marty so you guys want some real action. How about you head off with the other team and make sure that ship is clear once we get all these bastards. Get any tech these alien bastards have and make sure the thing is clear.

Well you heard the man. It seems we are going to go investigate the hippie alien ship. In ship fighting can get ugly quick; but at least we get first dibs on whatever we find.

David turned to Marty: hey is this a chance to put all our Quake XXX experience to good use.

Youre experience Quake has been lame for millennia; I prefer my first person shooters with a plot man.

Yeah, yeahprobably need a damn love story too dont you? David sneered back while reloading his grenade launcher.

Will you two stop yapping and get back to fighting.I know these guys are completely incompetent hippies, but we still need to make sure none of the alien hippie spawn survive. Filled the two mens ears at a pause.

Alright Id better stop this live feed and get back to defending our planet. Marty paused and put on a serious tone of voice; just wanted to let you know that us free planeters arent a bunch of selfish types we are portrayed as. We cant be free if we are dead or enslaved can we?

Live free or die trying!....this is Libertarium out! The feed closed, Marty checked his weapon, and got back into the action.

Die you alien hippie zombies! was heard nearby.

They aint zombies you moron, yelled back in stern terms, they are merely aliens dressed as smelly hippies!

Will you two geeks stop arguing about the enemy and get back to killing them! Yelled a third voice. This isnt a chat room its real life!

5 things you need to know about the iPhone 1.1.1 update

September 28th, 2007 | Category: Technology

Before you hit that ‘Upgrade’ button, here are a few items of community interest to consider.

read more | digg story

Its a good idea not to instantly upgrade yer iPhone when ever you are aware of a new update. First of all Apple has a history of messing things up if you don’t have a “pure” iPhone and early adopters generally are risking some problems. There are plenty of people willing to jump at any new update and then write about it. Keep calm and lets others take the possible pain.

Sober College…

September 28th, 2007 | Category: Drugs

Like it or not there are some people who don’t handle addictive substances so well. Or rather they have addictive personalities that are prone to getting addictive to something. If you know or are related to someone in that sort of mess you need help fast. Substance Abuse Treatment is not something that is easy to handle in anyone whether old or young.

Sober College, a Southern California substance abuse center, provides care for those with severe alcohol and drug problems. Rehab is the cool thing to do for lots of celebrities, including HIM’s Val, these days, sometimes one has to wonder if they necessarily always need it. Below the glitz and glamour there are people with serious problem who need help; quality help at that.

Do or Die for the Tories

September 28th, 2007 | Category: Politics

Iain Dale points out, quite rightly, that the Conservative Party in the UK are in deep trouble (11 points behind at last poll) and they need to pull one out of the hat next week at their yearly Conference in Blackpool. An election is coming, probably within a few months, and they ain’t ready in any way possible. It is indeed grim.

J’Excuse!

September 27th, 2007 | Category: Political Correctness, Women

Back in the days of the Mulroney Government, a report on women and the criminal justice system was commissioned. The purpose of this was to funnel a few million in salaries to the otherwise-unemployable feminist hacks who wrote it.

The report is lost in the mists of the pre-Internet age; but allow me to summarize the authors’ conclusions: No woman should ever be sent to prison, for any reason whatsoever. Fraud, arson, murder—women would never commit these crimes unless they had a very good reason to do so, and a man made them do it anyway.

So everyone had a good laugh about it, and the report was shelved. But O happy day, they’ve blown the dust off just in time for this horrendous child-abuse case in Edmonton:

Darcy Bannert, 26, was handed an eight-year prison term this morning on convictions of sexual interference, unlawful confinement, assault with a weapon, common assault, uttering threats and two drug charges.

“This was not a circumstance of poor parenting skills,” said Court of Queens Bench Justice Darlene Acton. “Mr. Bannert was the player in control of this case and the focus in this particular case can only be on Mr. Bannert.

“This was not a momentary act or an angry outburst of a person who loses control because a child has misbehaved,” continued Acton.

“This was a systematic plan and an abusing and controlling pattern of behaviour within an environment where Mr. Bannert chose to focus his attentions on (the girl) in a physically abusive as well as sexually abusive manner.”

Need a Masterpaper?

September 27th, 2007 | Category: Stuff

As students head back to university and high school its time when they think of writing essays and papers on lots of different subjects. With the internet there are ways that they can help make their academic life easier. Essay Writing services are just one of those ways to help oneself when you get in a bind. Now there are some of those who find this activity to be immoral or a tad dishonest. It has always gone on just now its not down to contacts or your friends but open to all online.

People have writing, editing and re-writing papers for those less able to since universities began. Not everyone can wax on about every subject on this earth. That is one of the reason was specialisation, as it happens in the UK, is probably a better way of doing things.

The website that I refer to has a long history of helping students with their essays; with product being delivered every day of the week. They pride themselves on their customer service, value and quality of product. If you are using such services you really want to make sure you are getting quality product. Not to do so would be foolish indeed.

Annoying Dwarf Grounded

September 26th, 2007 | Category: Humor, Middle East, Politics

Scrappleface:

Columbia University promised a full investigation into charges of police brutality after todays reported Tasering of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who had come to the Ivy League school to give the annual Adolph Hitler Memorial Peace and Tolerance Lecture.

Like a similar incident at the University of Florida last week, the stun-gun assault by police followed a lengthy anti-American rant by the alleged victim, and was immediately condemned by civil rights advocates.

According to eyewitnesses, Mr. Ahmadinejad was dragged from the room shouting: “Do not make to Tase myself, slang brother man.”
