Its Blogday
For shites and/or giggles I am participating in Blogday 2007. That is when you select five lesser known blogs to recommend to your readers. So here goes.
First up we have The Remittance Man which you have to admit is a cracking name for a blog. He describes he is “Blasting Knaves and Mountebanks From The Depths of Darkest Africa.” Can’t add much more to that really.
Then I have to send you off to Grey Monk’s which considering what he does in his spare time and for whom it is quite unusual that I recommend his blog. He is not the most prolific but all his pieces are ones that inspire one to think and are at the least interesting.
Now this blog has a rather odd name its Raised By Chaffinches. I have no bloody clue what they are and how they would raise a blogger. This might give you a bit of a hint “I was abandoned as a baby by my parents and brought up by a lovely chaffinch couple.”
Belgian libertarians, yes they actually exist, and here is their blog. Its written in both of the Belgian languages and English. Belgium is generally ignored by most people, even political hacks, because of the EU in their midst. Well their politics are pretty interesting and are getting more so by the day.
And finally we have K T Dodge who is new to blogging but has gotten really going in the last few weeks. No politics, no metal just the ramblings of an actress with lots of interests.
1 commentDiana-tastic
As you might have known from reading this blog; I am not a big fan of Diana at all. In fact I was sick to death of the bloody whinging Princess before she died. Unlike many other people my reaction to her death was: “oh f*** no, the tabloids and celeb culture have their first martyr.”
I have spent a decent amount of time in the last years attempting to help other come to terms with daft idiotic ideas of a conspiracy. I asked the simple question: “if the Palace was responsible what possibly could there to gain for the Queen?” Generally that shuts em’ up. If asked I profer ideas that if there were a conspiracy to get her and Dodi it would be far more likely to come from the Middle East. Think about it.
It was not the fault of anyone else that Diana was in the car; it was her own. She made a lot of rubbish decisions in her life that caused her own problems. Like rock or movie stars who make a mess of their life they should be derided or maybe even pittied but to idolise them is just idiotic.
Anyway I was not going to write anything about this anniversary, simply ignoring it and allowing the Princes the dignity of remembering their mother in peace. However its wall to wall bloody coveraged even on Fox and my good wife has even succumbed so I felt the need to make the case for those of who are sick of the whole sordid mess.
Say no to the Cult of Diana. Or to paraphrase a famous Monty Python line: “She was not a Saint; she was a bloody stupid young woman.”
Update: I sent a complaint to Fox about their ott coverage of this event. Talk about an irrelevance, especially to Americans.
Update II: Simon Heffer seems to agree with me...should I be worried?
As you may or may not already be aware, members of the Watcher’s Council hold a vote every week on what they consider to be the most link-worthy pieces of writing around… per the Watcher’s instructions, I am submitting one of my own posts for consideration in the upcoming nominations process.
Here is the most recent winning council post, here is the most recent winning non-council post, here is the list of results for the latest vote, and here is the initial posting of all the nominees that were voted on.
Tories playing electoral chicken with Labour
“So whenever Gordon Brown chooses to call a general election, we will be ready for him. He has no democratic mandate. He has a reputation tainted by his failures after a decade in office. And he has no new ideas. An early election? Bring it on.”
No manifesto and not all seats filled but egging Brown on…clever or not?
And people say May is there just because she has been around and is female. Well it certainly not because of her political nouse.

1 commentTed Nugent to his critics…get stuffed…
In a great exchange on the normally mind-numbing O’Reily factor; Ted Nugent has told his critics they will not silence him on his rock & roll stage. His rant against Hilary and Obama was not worse or in fact tamer than some of the crap coming out of the left towards the right; never mind the vicious rhetoric that Nugent recieves on a regular basis.
Speaking of which I am looking forward to Ted’s latest CD. On the basis of his recent output, which is a return to form, it’ll be a cracker. And if you get a chance to, check this guy out live as he seriously rocks live.

Britons give many reasons for leaving, but their stories share one commonality: life in Britain has become unbearable for them. They fear lawlessness and the threat of more terrorism from a growing Muslim population and the loss of a sense of Britishness, exacerbated by the growing refusal of public schools to teach the history and culture …

Joek
An old southern Baptist country preacher had a teenage son, and it was getting time the boy should give some thought to choosing a profession.
Like many young men, the boy didn’t really know what he wanted to do, and he didn’t seem too concerned about it.
One day, while the boy was away at school, his father decided to try an experiment. He went into the boy’s room and placed on his study table four objects:
A Bible,
A silver dollar,
A bottle of whisky,
A Playboy magazine
“I’ll just hide behind the door,” the old preacher said to himself, “and when he comes home from school this afternoon, I’ll see which object he picks up. If it’s the Bible, he’s going to be a preacher like me, and what a blessing that would be! If he picks up the dollar, he’s going to be a businessman, and that would be okay, too. But if he picks up the bottle, he’s going to be a no-good drunkard, and, Lord, what a shame that would be! And worst of all, if he picks up that magazine he’s gonna be a skirt-chasin’ bum.”
The old man waited anxiously, and soon heard his son’s footsteps as he entered the house whistling and headed for his room. The boy tossed his books on the bed, and as he turned to leave the room he spotted the objects on the table.
With curiosity in his eye, he walked over to inspect them. Finally, he picked up the Bible and placed it under his arm. He picked up the silver dollar and dropped it into his pocket. He uncorked the bottle and took a big drink while he admired this month’s centerfold.

Yes, I’ve been remiss in posting anything about the ongoing campaigns of the presidential hopefuls. Honestly, it was on purpose. Until now I’ve believed it was too darn early to start commenting upon the various candidates seeking the highest office in the US. Nothing that’s happened earlier in the year has really meant anything to anyone’s chances for the nomination by their respective political parties. It mostly been meaningless noise…except of course to those actually making that noise. What’s worse is that the noise has affected too many of political Illuminati in the various states, causing them to take actions that will have unintended effects.
It’s really starting to wear me down.
The constant jockeying for each state to have their primary/caucus/convention before every other has now gone past ridiculous: Wyoming Republicans have announced they will be holding their nominating convention on January 5th, 2008.
This means that both Iowa and New Hampshire will be forced by their state laws to move their contests to sometime in December of this year. It’s insane.
The ever-changing contest schedule—and the earlier start to the balloting—has created an enormous level of discomfort for national parties trying to impose discipline on the states as well as presidential campaigns trying to figure out strategies when voting could begin in just four months.
As a deterrence, the Republican National Committee insists they will penalize states that schedule nominating contests before Feb. 5 by withholding delegates to the conventions next summer.
As if that has deterred states from scheduling their contests earlier. So far Florida hasn’t caved to the DNC’s demand that they change their date or forfeit their delegates at the Democratic Convention next summer. Will Wyoming’s Republican’s give in to the RNC’s demands?
If this type of madness continues, all that will happen is a weakening of the nomination process to the point where it will become meaningless. Presidential campaigns will start the day after the President takes the Oath of Office. Campaigns will be never ending and, quite possibly, the people will stop paying any attention to them.
I’m almost tempted to suggest that perhaps, this time around, both Iowa and New Hampshire sit this one out and let the rest of the friggin’ loonies duke it out and show everyone how stupid the states’ party committees have become. By compressing the schedule with heavy front loading all these idiots have done is to limit such campaigns to only the wealthy. The problem with that is that far too often the wealthy haven’t got a clue about what the American people want or need (look at John Kerry’s presidential run in 2004 as an example). The candidates with real ideas and true integrity may not have the ability to run because they don’t have money to play in the big leagues with the rest of the well-funded, if less than acceptable, candidates.
This has got to stop.
2 commentsNeed a writers circle?
Now lets just say you are a writer who doesn’t know any writers well. A not too uncommon occurance I can assure you. Well wouldn’t it be nice to know of a writers circle online that you can access from the privacy of yer own home? There is a pretty good one that has been around for two years now called appropriately enough http://www.MyWritersCircle.com. Its a one stop site for both the budding and experienced writer. If you are a writer or have an incling to be one why not head over and take a look?

To Diana’s memory in his own special way. I am sure many people sick of the tributes to Princess Whinge will agree.
No commentsLondon-Based Editor: I’ll Dance in Trafalgar Square When Iran Nukes Israel
“Abd Al-Bari Atwan, editor-in-chief of the UK-based Arabic daily Al-Quds Al-Arabi, told a Lebanese TV interviewer he will dance in Trafalgar Square when Iran nukes Israel. Bari Atwan is also a contributor to the BBC and Sky News, neither of whom seem to have much of a problem with this.”
I am sure there are quite a few people in the UK who love to hear what a wanker this bastard is in the end. I am sure we can manage a email writing campaign every time he shows up on Sky. There is no hope on the Beeb, of course, they probably think his attitude is a good one.

Cameron targets gamers…
David Cameron, late of commissioning a report that calls for all drinkers to pay more for their booze because of the idiots and addicts who misbehave, now wants to censor games. According to the DT Davey boy wants to crack down on “violent video games”.
Quite how denying adults to access to video games is going to curb gun totting thugs, who buy illegal weapons and deal drugs, is beyond me. He seems to think that those people would be carrying and sharing citizens if it weren’t for the evil people who make violent video games. Where are the parents in all of this who do not teach the different between a game and reality or the ones that let their children run wild?
Oh yes and how about the economic impact on the video game industry in the UK. Does he not know that it is a major export from the UK and that the video game busisness earns more than the movie business these days?
Who is advising Cameron?
Collective punishment is idiotic, unjust and immoral. Just another sign how far Cameron’s Tories have fallen.
Update: Cameron ain’t the the only politician railing on video games.
No commentsSen Craig swims in De Nile
In a press conference that was almost as lame as the bimbo’s performances on the Miss Teen World you can see below, Sen Craig has claimed his is “not gay” and that it was a mistake to plead guilty to cottaging in an airport loo in the midwest. One thing that struck me in the press conference is that he never used the word homosexual. Oh yes and considering he is married he would surely be bisexual?
Some people are wondering why he is getting a hammering in the press and online. Well considering his alleged but substaintiated predelictions its a wee bit hypocritical to be such an outspoken critic of homosexuality. He could even be considered an anti-homosexual compaigner.
Maybe that George Michael CD in his car player was a sign.
You would think such an experience politician would realise that when you are in a hole you should stop digging.
If your inclined to laugh at his situation there are some amusing videos on YouTube in tribute.
Update: The loo he was caught cottaging in is now a tourist attraction.

“CONCORD, N.H.—Moose are becoming more common in New Hampshire. Lynn Christenson of the Institute for Ecosystem Studies attributed the population growth to global warming. Christenson said moose respond to the higher temperatures and less snow.” Of course, they will say its global warming. Actually its moose sick of Maine socialism.
Moose are smart enough to move to a state believes in liberty rather than all encompasing state. Well done Maine moose.

Tests of Fascism?
Guido feels he should apologise first for his long absence, other commitments have kept him away from this blog. That said, on his return he found a wonderful piece written by the Gray Monk on the subject of a new series of “tests” designed by academics in the US to determine whether or not a government is “Fascist”.
Guido is forced to agree with the Monk in his conclusion that these tests are inconclusive to say the very least since they would seem to indicate that our own beloved government is Fascist. Heaven forfend! Our Beloved Member for Fife and Prime Minister leading a Fascist Government. Pass the smelling salts please!
The Monk’s item is far to good to ignore, please pay him a visit and read it for yourself!

1 commentGeorge Monbiot and the Neoliberals
George “Moonbat” Monbiot has figured who is behind laissez-faire capitalism so despised by he and his ilk. Its not any aliens or ethnic, racial or religious groupings its those damned neoliberals. He rather thinks we, I mean they, are responsible for all the worlds ills. He names some of think-tanks funded by them in a conspiratoratorial way.

Vick’s found Gawd!
Like no one saw that one coming. The guy is deep in the manure, his club is suing him, the Feds are on his butt and his endorsements are drying up faster than spit in the Mohave Desert. Normally a perp waits until he gets to prison before declaring that he has found Jeeesus and give his life over to God in order that gullible Christians will forgive him and start a letter writing campaign. I wonder if the Nation of Islam got a look in, after all they attract their fair share of fallen scumbags as well. No doubt Vick’s advisor told him that NOI might not be the best choice in the current climate.
Of course, now that he has found Gawd there is a whole line of people who are coming out in support of him, saying he will come back to the NFL. He can be forgiven after helping the community and doing good works. Like whenever high profile black ma isn in trouble there has been a cadre of people showing up to support him and decry this as a racist conspiracy. A few of the classic cop-outs: 1. he was expressing his cultural rage (like DMX in trouble for the same thing) 2. Rednecks do dog-fighting too and the absolute best 3. well white folks hunt and that is hurtful to the deer.
The first one is an excuse that has been wheeled out to defend misogynistic, violent and evil lyrics perpetrated by gangsta rappers since the 80s (ie its ok for a black man to sing about beating a ho’ up, but white guys who sing about getting laid are sexist). The second one is offered out without any proof whatsoever and relies on racial stereo types of poor white trash. And then we have the last one, the best one I have heard so far, which can be countered by pointing out that when hunters kill a deer they eat it. Its for food, not for entertainment of degenerates like Vick and DMX. Besides the deer have a sporting chance to get away unlike the poor dogs in a fighting pit.
Maybe someone should propose that Vick and DMX share a cell so they can trade tales of their dogfighting and torturing tales (btw DMX’s latest CD is about dogfighting).
Vick is a scumbag and a evil piece of work. I loath him for one other reason…I have to be on the same bloody side as PETA and Al Sharpton!
I still think the best punishment for both Vick and DMX is one perpetrated on traitors by Caligula. It would probably mellow both of them and it would be suitable revenge for dogs.
Don’t forgive Vick treat him with contempt and loathing he truly deserves. Punish now and forgive later…much later.
RWN has posted their thoughts on him inspired by a post on HuffPo.

1 commentKult jeans?
Who’d a figured that I would be writing about a site called Kultic.com. Shockingly the site has nothing to do with anything Cthulhu-esque or other cultish machinations. Its the home of True Religion Jeans who do a nice line in the ultra-hip for both men and women. So next time you are off in that forgotten glen to take part in some ritual or other why not wear jeans via a company called Kultic? You need to look good on the way now don’t you?

If this is true AT&T is following the example of RIAA and attempting to sue potential new customers. This is a great way of creating really bad press for yourself. Are they surprised at all that people are trying to hack the idiotic lock they put on their iPhones? And seriously doesn’t help that there have been instances of AT&T seriously ripping off people who travel abroad.
