We don’t need no exam…might get you jail

July 16th, 2007 | Category: Politics

Well that is if you are a Turkish punk band and you are criticising the standard assesement exam in Turkey. The band and their former managed are on trial facing an 18 month stretch for daring to criticise. Remember this is a country that is trying to get into the European Union. I wonder if agit-rockers will stand up for these guys?

July 16th, 2007 | Category: ROPMA, Terrorism

A Muslim doctor has reported the anti-Islamist terror group to Facebook and now that has failed he threatening to sue the people who are responding to him. Good to see he respects people right to free thought and debate. Interesting enough the group is up to 77 members. The discussion is priceless.

Sage of Wales writes…

July 16th, 2007 | Category: Andrew's Cthulhu tales

From the occasional Diary of the Sage of Wales:

A short entry because I do not want to forget this. Rupert and I were in the pub tonight and there was a guitar and vocals type bloke singing.

We went to the pub to drown our memories of today. Our host does not drink you see.

They are wonderful people at this place, and its well protected from any nasties. Alas, they are not only basically vegetarians they also dont touch any stimulants.

And people thought it was only mainstream religious types of stayed off all that. Pagans can be just as straight-edge as Mormons or any one else.

I digressmust be the ale talking.

Anyway as I was sitting with Rupert lost in a mixture of my own thoughts, the ale and food coma. The steak had that effect on both of us.

The words of the song or at least what I heard. I scribbled them on a paper napkin. I dont even have any idea what its called.

Together is all
Us against them all
Standing for what is right
Not always about might

What is all is true
Get a bleeding clue
Its about our survival
Not about silly rivals

Its a fight for survival
About our basic ideals
And what is truly real
Martyrdom aint our bag
Suicide is a total drag

But what you are
Be what you are
Is what got us all far

Stand up and fight for what is right
Stand up and fight for what is right

It just struck me as apt for what we are doing.

And hell it will beat the images I could be stuck withthe half-spawn of the deep ones glaring at me as we fend them off with our symbols. Driving the mutants back into the sea and closing yet another one of their land-falls.

Sweet dreams for me I hope

Steve Norris Should Stand Against Boris But the Others Should Depart the Sc

July 16th, 2007 | Category: Politics

Certain senior Tories are touting a Boris Johnson vs Steven Norris straight contest for the nomination for the chance to run for mayor of London. I don’t get this. Considering the grumbling of the grass roots Tories and the poll slump why are they suggesting Conservative Party members are denied a decent democratic contest? I hope no one drops out.

CCs options for sites

July 16th, 2007 | Category: Technology

There are a great deal of people online who want to use their sites to generate funds. One of the ways is to sell stuff via your site directly, thus cutting out the middlemen. Its always helps to be able to offer credit card services in addition to paypal.

Its good to be able to accept credit cards right on your site, thus making sure that your potential customers do not have to leave you site to get what they are interested in. If you are trying to have your site get to the next level of internet business then its something well worth looking into. After all cheques are so passe’.

Prince - The Artist Formerly Available in Record Stores

July 16th, 2007 | Category: Politics

Brett has commented on the move by Prince to distribute his new album in a Sunday newspaper in the UK. I think its a great idea, in fact I am listening to the CD right now, but understand the fuss. Surely Prince can do whatever he likes with his music and the rest of the business can just lump it? He is playing 14 nights at the O2 after all.

Get the debt help you need…

July 16th, 2007 | Category: Money

Another hike in interest rates and certainly wobbly sectors can lead to things coming a cropper when it comes to mortgages and credit card debts. If you are not careful its a very fine line between doing alright and having everything go rather awry. I do write from experience, not of having come seriously a cropper but having been staring on the edge of the precipice staring down at my fate. You never mean to get to that point but its surprising how easy it is to do so.

I never have had to use the services of a company that does debt consolidation but I understand that the right one can be most useful Handled properly it is possible to sort your life out and not ruin your future. Naturally as with anything else financial due care is needed in finding the proper people to handle your problem.

There are many services out there and one needs to make sure that you can properly control what is happening to you. You get this wrong and you can ruin your financial future for a very long time to come. As I have said before no one wants to think about this sort of thing until they really need it.

It is not enough to be liked, MPs need beliefs

July 16th, 2007 | Category: Politics

Janet Daley examines this weekend’s Conservative Party woes taking in both their two rather dire poll results and the case of their candidate in Ealing Southall. It seems he was sucking up to Tony Blair a month ago, even giving a donation of some size to the party, before becoming the Tory candidate for the bye-election.

Computer on…

July 16th, 2007 | Category: Technology

I have not tried it for quite a while and have given up with mobile phone versions, but I am still wondering how voice recognition software is doing these days. I have had a bit of an interest in the type of software as my father has always be going on about it so that he does not have to type. Ironically his typing is much better now as he has no choice.

I understand from various sources that Dragon Naturally Speaking is supposed to be quite good. Does anyone have any experience with it? I would be interested to know how they are progressing with recognition technology.

How far are we from the dream of every Star Trek/Babylon 5 fan of being able to chat to our computers?
