Islamist provocation…of their own…
In the light of the attempted and somewhat succeeded attacks last weekend, one has heard the repeated claims of the “root causes” of the Islamist campaign of terror. They bring up the usual excuses of the Arab-Israeli conflict, Iraq or Afghanistan (MCGB are doing the rounds making these sort of excuses). All of these excuses are, of course, a smoke screen to the real truth which many refuse to admit. After all there were Islamist attacks, car bombs even, before the invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq. The Israeli Embassy in London was car bombed in the early 90s. I remember it well as I was standing near it when it went off and it literally moved me.
This weekend’s attacks are meant to provoke fellow Muslims to rise up against their local infidels. If these attacks had succeeded in killing as many as they had hoped women in London (it was ladies night) and children in Glasgow (it is the beginning of summer holidays) the Islamists assumed that domestic population would rise up and start taking their anger out on their local Mosques. Then the Islamists could go to their fellow Muslims who don’t think like them, the majority as opposed to their significant minority, and attempt to demonstrate that the rest of the UK is out to get them.
Attacking an airport like Glasgow in Scotland has another affect as well. It is not inaccurate to say that Scots and more importantly Glaswegians are probably more prone to do something that their “soft” Southern England counterparts. The fact that members of the public were part of the reaction to the attacks clearly demonstrates this. The Celts are a fiery people (Rangers vs Celtic matches are a good testament to that.) and had a large number of people, many of whom were children, got killed in the Glasgow attack things could have gotten rather ugly for local Muslims.
The Islamists in the UK want to provoke an Islam vs. infidel war in the UK. They have shown a willingness to do this in Iraq (Sunni vs. Shiite vs. Kurd) and it is clear a similar mentality is at play here in the UK. Much though I loath Princess Diana and all she did to hurt the Royal Family, it was good to see that camp-fest yesterday, watching 60k people giving the two-fingered salute to all those who would stop their celebration of the good that Diana did (and yes, I have to admit she did do good deeds as well) in her lifetime.
It is a testament to the resolve and calmness of the British people that they have not risen to this provocation and reacted in a violent way. Let us all hope the Islamists don’t get their way in all of this.
As you may or may not already be aware, members of the Watcher’s Council hold a vote every week on what they consider to be the most link-worthy pieces of writing around… per the Watcher’s instructions, I am submitting one of my own posts for consideration in the upcoming nominations process.
Here is the most recent winning council post, here is the most recent winning non-council post, here is the list of results for the latest vote, and here is the initial posting of all the nominees that were voted on.
