Scooter for summer
And no I am not talking about a campaign to get “Scooter” Libby pardoned. I am talking about the wheeled things that allow you to drive around on two wheels without having to peddle yourself up sodding great hills or have a heavy hog between your legs. (And I am not talking about that huge beast that just got hunted down but a motorcycle.) While some people in the country or in the rural areas think scooters are quite daft many urban dwellers find them quite a useful way to get around if the weather is right.
What might surprise some of you is the choice of colours, types and prices that now exist in scooters these days. You are not only restricted to the uber camp Vespa. There are actually some rather butch black scooters that look like they should have a 50 caliber machine gun mounted on them. I just love those scooters with the roll cage on them making them look like something about of the last set of Star Wars movies. Wonder when one of em’ is going to show up in an action movie.
Those just wanting something simple and small can find a whole range of basic ones. And the poser types can now by Ferrari and other posh company branded companies. You know those scooters you see flying around the paddock at an F1 race? Well you can get them these days.
Its even got so that its rock & roll to have a scooter. No longer do you have a huge Harley to be rock & roll (unless you are in a band with the word Motor in the title). Bands are forever being seen riding scooters back stage at the uber-festivals that now seem to fill the summer schedule.
Of course you would be daft to ride one without a bit of instruction and get yourself into an accident on one can be rather painful.
Basically scooters are not for mods and weedy geeks anymore.
