R.I.P. Aunt Edith

May 02nd, 2007 | Category: Announcements

Upon arrival yesterday Kim & I learned of the passing of my beloved Aunt Edith. She had a good innings at 101 and touched the lives of many in the Boothbay area. Kim managed to meet Edith and she gave us her blessing. It is a shame she will not be alive for our wedding.

If you are interested in reading more on a remarkable woman the Portland Press Herald has a good obituary.

Stalking The Carpetbagger

Toronto Sun:

The Conservatives’ new environmental platform is a “complete and total fraud” that is “designed to mislead the Canadian people,” former U.S. vice-president Al Gore said yesterday.

You’ll pay for that, Almer Gortry. * But before we get started, let me insert this meta tag to block the Secret Service robots:

Stupid robots. Bwahahaha.

Now, where does the bastard live when he’s not up here annoying me?

nashvilleIt’s easy enough to find out—just go to Google Maps and type in “Al Gore’s house.” (Though it does help if you’re looking at Nashville or at least Tennessee at the time.)

Hmmm hmmm. Street address and directions. Let’s switch to satellite view so we can get a view of the environs:

nashville2I’ll be damned. He does use 20 times more electricity than the average American.

  • I was so proud of this, really I was. It was a play on Elmer Gantry, the 1927 novel by Sinclair Lewis, about a corrupt preacher. Then I decided to google it. Naturally, one other guy thought of it first.

Curse you, Mark Steyn.

Need yer own newsletter?

May 02nd, 2007 | Category: Technology

A great deal of bloggers, like me, are always trying to help get our readers our content by ways that mean little effort on their behalf. I know that most blog readers are lazy sods who want everything delivered to their door so they have one source with all the info they need without have the ponderous task of having to check on each blog. Now we all know about RSS feeds and the various readers, but some bloggers are going for the newsletter route. This is especially good for blogger who post a bit less but go for high impact pieces.

Now if you are really wanting to go down this route it might be a good idea to get a proper newsletter service and do things professionally. Email Marketing of your blog can be a very good way of getting readers to the stuff you really want them to read. This service allows the option of custom templates specifically tailored to your newsletter needs. It has a function that gets your newsletter into search engines so its easy to find. Check it out if you are thinking of starting an email newsletter.
