Mercer gets culled
In a further move of political correct bullshit Cameron has sacked Patrick Mercer for pointing out some home truths about the military. Needless to say commentators are piling in on Mercer. Iain Dale has not surprisingly backing his leader; considering he is trying to get a seat.
Mercer’s comments probably were ill-advised in their frankness. This is classic example of those who have not been in the military judging someone who has without a clue.
What was most striking was Cameron sacrificing his colleague in front of Millbank. It speaks volumes and should strike fear into anyone reasonable.
Update: Iain Dale mentions this piece below.
2 commentsReflections on a Muslim country
Having spent some time in Morocco, a nominally Muslim, mainly Arab country in North Africa I was struck by a number of contrasts between life in London and in Morocco.
Travelling around the country, I hardly saw anyone wearing a full pillar box burkah whereas in London the practice has become quite common. Is it that some Muslims in the UK feel a need to confront the native culture?
In a local market in Morocco, my travelling companion was accosted by a local who took it upon himself to explain that for a woman to have exposed arms and shoulders is considered improper. Imagine the reaction there would be from the police in London if a passer by decided to explain to a muslim that in our culture, going round with a bag over your head is considered a sign of intent to rob a building society.
Incidentally, in the same town there were many teenage girls going round plastered in make-up with exposed arms. Perhaps the dress police were reserved for foreigners.
On the whole, however, people were very welcoming and friendly.
Alcohol was readily available and cheap. In London it might be even more available but it is taxed heavily. So why is it that Muslims in an Arab country seem more laid back and tolerant than some in Britain? Is it that they do not feel the need to define themselves by what they are not?
1 commentThatcher delivers…
In the light of Recess Monkey’s death of Lady T faux pas many of us have been thinking about what and how they will feel when she finally does pop her clogs. One thing I am preparing for is the gloating that will inevitably comes from the left. However it does occasionally cheer one up to watch one of her famous speeches, especially after seeing milk toast Davey boy deliver one.
Well the Thatcher Foundation has a nice repository of her best which I found via Iain Dale.

The House of Commons still can’t figure out how exactly they want to ruin the House of Lords further. I think it is possible they do not want to vote for a full 100% elected chamber because it will be seen for what it truly is, an insurance policy for those chucked out of the House of Commons.
As with all of Labour other big projects this vandalism of the 700 year old House of Lords seems to continue like the spirralling cost of the Olympics. Here is a thought, why not let the people of these isles vote on what they want for an upper chamber?

Many moons ago I appeared on Mr Permatanned aka Kilroy’s chat show on the subject of whether or not I would go out with a single mother. It was a most amusing afternoon as the guy thought gorgeous by all the single moms proceeded to tell them he would never go out with any of them because they were “used goods” (he actually said that). While on the other hand I said it didn’t bother me at all. I got a few phone numbers that day, alas from farflung parts of the UK, while the studmuffin had to be escorted him out to protect him from a few rather irked single moms. I must admit I was bummed they protected the “manly man” as it would have been fun to watch a few of the irate moms re-arrange his features.
Anyway there is hope for Single Moms who are ready to move on with their personal lives. Its a site dedicated to “hooking up” Single Moms and Single Dads. This post was sponsored.
BTW: I am not the only contributor to this blog to appear on Kilroy. Can you guess who else?

A guide to interpreting photos on social-networking site Friendster. I would think that it’s also applicable to MySpace, Facebook, etc. Some truths are universal.
Alexa rank
Alexa has been causing lots of angst over at PPP and other places as it seems to be rather oddly skewed a certain way. Its seems to share no corrolation with say Google PR (which ranks this blog as 6/10). There are quite a few people seeking ways to improve their score if only to make sure they do not limit their possibilities on PPP. The above is one such widget which can be found here found via this post.

Well it has taken a while but someone has decided to turn searching the internet into a game show. Yes that is right, you search the internet using the service called Wabbadabba – search and win. And it isn’t just rubbish like vouchers or discounts but proper pukka prizes up to plasma televisions. So head over and check out the new search engine…you never know you might win something as part of the bargain?
