Care for a sunny holiday?

October 06th, 2006 | Category: Stuff

As you probably are well aware now I am getting married in May of next year to the lovely Kim. Besides wedding planning, which is bloody complicated even with a wedding planner I am learning, there is the question of the honeymoon. Now I believe its my responsability to be making plans for that part of the wedding event. Or post-event as the case may be. I am thinking it might be rather good to take Kim to Honduras, a country which I lived in when i was rather young. Honduras has a series of islands off the coast called simply The Bay Islands which are English speaking and very Carribean in outlook. They seem to be very big with those who like snorkling, scuba diving and honeymooning not forgetting the lovely beaches surrounding each island. Kim wants to spend time on the beach in the tropics; so what better place than the Bay Islands? Since I last knew about them they have far better transport links with an international airport to fly into and regular boats between the islands.

I have done quite a bit of time travelling around Latin America having taken in Honduras, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Belize (nee British Honduras) and Mexico. Never made it to Nicaragua or El Salvador as they tended to be in conflict when I was interested in visiting them. I have been interested in returning to Honduras and exploring more of their Carribean coast other that Puerto Cortez which I visited often when I lived there. Of course, no trip to the area would be complete without a few days in Miami to see how it has changed, check out the new campus of my prep school that got obliterated by Andrew and to see some ole’ friends who still live in the area,

I would recomend this site for information on travelling especially tropical vacations, whether you plan to go cruising or do something less structure on your own. The site has hundreds of articles on what to see and what to do; as well as forums where others can share their travel experiences. First hand experience is always better than some brochure or other.

Protocols a fraud?

Not according to series in a Saudi newspaper they are not. And some people wonder why Israel and Jews have such a hard time existing in the Middle East. And this ain’t some pissant nutty fringe newspaper either but a mainstream one in Saudi. The paranoia expressed in the series of articles would be quite amusing if it were not so serious.

Working in the UK?

October 06th, 2006 | Category: UK Politics

There is site that helps one avoid all the pitfalls and pratfalls of being of foreigner and working in the UK. Working in the UK in the UK whether freelance or for a Forbes 500 country be fraught at the best of times. There are those in the UK that seem to try to make it as hard as possible to do the right and correct thing. And ever changing political enviroment towards foreign workers does not help matters either. Its nice to see there are sites that help one get things sorted correctly before even trying to work over here. Advice before you get here is most important and the site has oodles of info on that including information about the differences between a resume (generally one page) and a Curriculum Vitae. As you might have gathered; its well worth a look.

Dumbest city in the UK?

Would you be surprised to hear its Hull? With John “Perving Your Mellons” Prescott as their MP what do you expect? And just imagine how bad it would be without Hull University in the city?

Jack Straw right about something?

October 06th, 2006 | Category: ROPMA, Religion

He has gotten in trouble for expressing his uncomfortable feelings when chatting to Muslim women in the full veil. I have got to say I don’t blame him. They make people in motorcyle helmets take them off inside businesses so why should a woman be able to cover her entire face but her eyes?

Is this site down?

October 06th, 2006 | Category: Technology

This piece of kit is brilliant for those of us who are site-owners and travel; its called IsMySiteUp? and it does exactly what it says on the tin. It will SMS or email you if your site is down to let you know. Its simple and easy to use with monitoring and performance statistics available. A great new tool for bloggers and normal site owners.
