video phones…
There is an interesting piece on video phones and their future. Once the stuff of daftness with new technology such as the internet and modern mobile phones it is possible and practical. Of course there are downsides to it; most of the women I know would not want to do Video over IP too often or use their mobile phone that way lest they be caught looking not quite the way they would like to be seen. Video phonage is quite good for families seperated by vast oceans or continents however. It is really interesting to see how it is progressing over the years.

Pataki Opens Campaign Office In New Hampshire
New York’s governor George Pataki has opened a campaign office in New Hampshire. But Pataki has been downplaying the opening.
N.Y. Gov. George Pataki became the first potential presidential hopeful to open an office in New Hampshire on Monday, though he insisted his sites aren’t set any further than the election five weeks away.
“This is about ‘06,” he said. “It really is.”
The office will be headquarters for Pataki’s political action committee, the 21st Century Freedom PAC, and will offer space and resources for Republicans seeking state and federal office from New Hampshire.
It may be about 2006, but even he must admit that he’s looking towards 2008.

If you are curious and slightly nerdy like me, must be the engineer father I grew up with and still chat with, you might be interested in this site that explains how a gas turbine actually works. They also have information on other types of engines like turbofans, turbojets and turboshaft. I am fascinated by all this stuff and hope engineers will get scramjet and other technologies on passenger aircraft soon. I love flying but rather not fond of the new Airbus airplanes that are smaller and more cramped. If you are going to give us less room at least make the damn thing faster. No doubt Airbus’ are nice to fly but I have to say I would prefer being a passenger on a Boeing than any Airbus I have flown on.

Meanwhile, South Of The Border….
While the political contests here in New Hampshire are pretty tame, those just south of the border in Massachusetts are heating up. In particular, the gubernatorial race is turning out to be the most vocal of all of the races.
Republican Kerry Healey and Democrat Deval Patrick have been trading verbal barbs of an increasingly personal nature. The level of rhetoric has been going up in proportion to the political attack ads airing on radio and television.
This is going to be far more interesting than anything going on in New Hampshire.

VOIP is the latest thing discovered by the media and others to go on about. I assume that most of you, my loyal readers, are probably using Skype, iChat AV or any of the other VOIP services kicking around. I have been chatting to my parents in Maine over VOIP (despite the fact they are on 56k) since Apple released iChat AV quite a few years ago. In fact I probably chat more to my father now than I did at any time before; even when I was living at home. We can have a chat while I am doing other things and he is likewise. Its great to be able to with chat with people in other parts of the world and not having to stop what you are doing online or even move from your seat. Now if you don’t know what hell I am on about let me recomend this VOIP site. It will explain all you need to know in simple and concise language.

Stay And Lose
While presidential hopefuls have been making the rounds here in New Hampshire, it has been more at the behest of local candidates running for federal or state offices. The heavy campaigning for the 2008 nomination won’t start until after the November elections. However, that hasn’t stopped one of them from taking potshots at President Bush while he was campaigning for some of the local Democrats.
Senator John Kerry (DMA) took the opportunity today to blast President Bush on Afghanistan and Iraq while stumping for Democratic Congressional candidates, claiming that his sources in the CIA have told him that we’ve abandoned all efforts in Afghanistan and have taken a Stay and Lose posture in Iraq.
It seems that Kerry’s take on the situation in both countries is far different than everybody else’s, including the governments in Afghanistan and Iraq.
But we must remember that he is thinking of running for President again.
