Flooring?

September 16th, 2006 | Category: Stuff
I have always liked is Armstrong laminate flooring rather than carpets; then you just put rugs on top where you want. Quite frankly I am not keen on carpet in any part of the house. Its a pain to get clean and I always spill on it…because lets face it I am a wee bit uncordinated. And as a dog owner I can assure you laminate flooring is easier to get hair free than carpet.

Let The Campaiging Begin

September 16th, 2006 | Category: New Hampshire Primaries, Politics

Now that the state primary in New Hampshire is over, the proper political bloodletting can begin. No, I’m not talking about the upcoming national elections in November.

I’m talking about the 2008 Presidential campaign.

The potential candidates are already jockeying for position. A number have already made or are planning to make visits to New Hampshire in order to get in front of the cameras and get some name recognition. Some will give stump speeches for the local candidates for state or federal office. Others will do some of the local talk shows on TV or radio. All of this will be to set themselves up for running in the 2008 New Hampshire Primary. Soon you won’t be able to walk down the street without running into one presidential hopeful or another.

It’s gonna be a long campaign season….

All Hallow’s Eve preperations

September 16th, 2006 | Category: Nutty stuff

I was rather surprised to see the Halloween stuff already up in the supermarket to make parent’s lives hellish for the next few months. However it did start me thinking about Halloween Costumes should I be invited to an All Hallow’s Eve party this year (which inevitably I am). I normally wear my leather kilt and go for crazed viking look. Before the kilt I tended to drift towards the Medieval costume or the rocker look. As far as I can tell Pirate costumes. I would be shocked if the older party goers might not be inclined to go for Fantasy costumes or the really geeky will go for Star Wars ones.

I will probably stick with my sinister looking viking missing an eye look. Having the kilt and the long black hair does make this far easier to get ready for that some people’s costumes. The fact I have a dodgy left-eye means wearing an eye patch is not big deal either.

The Inverse Ninja Law

September 16th, 2006 | Category: Literature, Movies

I knew there was a scientific explanation for this.

Wikipedia:

The Inverse Ninja Law is a similar phenomenon that occurs frequently in martial arts movies, and role playing games. It is also sometimes called the Anime Ninja Effect or the Rule of One.

The Inverse Ninja Law states that the effectiveness of a group of ninja is inversely proportional to the number of ninja in the group. While a single enemy ninja is often portrayed as a significant threat to the protagonists, a large group of ninja is significantly less of a threat, and as such is easily defeated. This is sometimes applicable to other close combatoriented minions as well.

Accordingly, effectiveness, e, should be computable given the number of ninja, n, and some as-yet-undetermined proportionality constant, k, as follows:

Closely correlated:

The Stormtrooper effect, also called Stormtrooper syndrome, is a clich phenomenon in works of fiction where minor characters (cannon fodder) are unrealistically ineffective in combat against more important characters (almost always the protagonists “equipped” with character shields). The name originated with the armed Imperial Stormtroopers in the original Star Wars trilogy, who, despite their considerable advantages of close range, overwhelming numbers, professional military training, full armor, military-grade firepower, and noticeable combat effectiveness against non-speaking characters, were incapable of seriously harming the protagonists. The effect is generally employed either to increase the dramatic tension of an action scene or to accentuate the heroes’ fighting prowess.

If you want to help her you can buy pixels in her virtual house and then read her humorous blog posts. Pixel Property for Sale in Kim’s House is a nifty idea. She is also running a contest where you can win a date with her or she will pay for one for you.
