Over-reacting us?
Couldn’t be because of something like this could it?

Because that would be unreasonable.
Comments are off for this postThat wonderful moderate form of Islam
Well, at least, this version is well written and not that frothing. Not exactly what most people would consider moderate however; unless maybe you are a member of the IRA. Just in case you are in any doubt.
Let there be no doubt: the crime of belittling the Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) results in instant death for the Muslim by unanimous opinion of the scholars, and the majority believe it to be the case as well for the Dhimmi and the Musta’man (those who have peace treaties etc) living in the Muslim lands under Islamic Law.
Now correct me if I am wrong but surely that is an incitement to murder? From Simply Jews.
Andrea has an interesting piece as well.
Comments are off for this postA change of view?
Guido rarely watches late night television, but, being in a state of “nursing” a rather vicious cold, was last night up rather late and so caught a part of the Clive James Show. Evidently he was not the only one, as the Gray Monk seems to have seen it as well and has put up a piece entitled “A moderate voice”. Like the Monk, Guido was impressed by the lady’s passion and the force of her arguments. She condemned the demonstrators outside the Danish Embassy last week, and was scathing of the man dressed as a “suicide bomber”.
She was even more scathing of the police lack of action, arguing that the BNP would have been treated very differently had it been their demonstration. In her view the police should have dealt with the protest firmly and immediately, since to do otherwise merely re-inforces the view held in many circles that Muslims can do as they please and say as they please, while everyone else cannot! As she pointed out, Labour’s obsession with the “Muslim” vote is getting in the way of actually dealing with a very small group of professional trouble makers and rabble-rousers. Her arguments were cogent, clearly well thought out and she made her position clear. She is a Muslim and happy to be, but she is far from happy about the way a small minority, led by radical clerics, generally from abroad, who have turned their faith into a vision of violence and hatred. Several points she made resonated with Guido, among them the assertion that there is absolutely no excuse for anyone to engage in suicide bombing, least of all to do so in Britain where Muslims have, if anything, been more fairly treated than anywhere else. She also criticsed the politicians who promote the idea that Islam must have “Special” status in the UK in order to “protect” it. As she said, it is quite capable of defending its own – moderate – views and theology in any rational debate, something which cannot happen as long as the radicals are protected from the consequences of their actions by well meaning, but misguided, politicians and prosecutors who fail to apply the law evenly. It was a treat to watch the two politicans on the show wriggle uncomfortably as she said this.
It was also interesting to hear her views on the fact that the Jyllands-Posten cartoons had been published in Cairo very shortly after they were puiblished in Denmark, with almost no response at all in the Islamic world. It certainly is interesting to note that it took almost four months for any sort of storm to break over them – they were first published in Denmark last September – and even more interesting that so many “demonstrators” were able to lay their hands “spontaneously” on Danish flags. Guido had heard, and this was confirmed by Clive James’ guest, that almost nothing was raised or said about the affair until three or four renowned radical Imams currently living in Denmark (The Muslim population is around 1% of the total) obtained copies of the cartoons, including unpublished ones and some that had been crudely modified since publication, and took these abroad to the Middle East where a series of meetings with the leaders of radical Islam in Syria, Saudi and Iran were held and suddenly – an international incident is made of them. It seems incomprehensible to Guido that our Security Services and the Governments of the EU would not have known this was happening – so why have they let it go unchallenged? Why have they let the radical government’s behind this use it to stir up a smoke screen to hide their own failings? One wonders how much of it has been stirred deliberately to draw attention away from Iran’s efforts to restart their nuclear ambitions, or the ongoing funding of terrorist insurgenst into Iraq by these and other governments in that region?
Several things concern Guido after last night’s debate. Firstly, were any of our political elite watching, and even more importantly, listening? Secondly, the lady in question showed incredible bravery in appearing and in voicing her opinions so clearly. Guido has no doubt that she is now on someone’s fatwah list and marked as “to be dealt with as an example”. Some idiot Imam somewhere today will no doubt scream abuse about her choice of dress, her daring to voice her opinion and demand that she be punished. And somewhere in his congregation, some even bigger moron will listen and attempt to do something to her. Guido hopes that the police will be alert to this and will deal with any such threat and any attempt against her swiftly, effectively and with the full force of the law. Let us make no mistake here, if we do not make sure the moderate voices are allowed to speak out without fear of persecution by the radical mafia, we will all lose!
Guido hopes that Mr Blair and his coterie of secularist Ministers and Civil Servants were listening last night because the debate contained both praise and criticism of their policies. Britain is a free, fair and open society, those who think it is not need to go and live in any of the countries ruled by radical Islamicists for a dose of reality. If they continue to pursue a course which favours the sensitivities of one group while penalising another for exercising those freedoms they will create a radical backlash which will be disasterous for everyone. Let us hope that they listened, and that the police will, in future act with impunity where the law is being breeched. It is now seven days since the demonstration outside the Danish Embassy began, yet there has been only one arrest for the clearly unlawful incitement to violence displayed on the placards waved, and the chants led by the radical “cheerleaders”. This needs to be rethought, because, as the young lady said in her argument, it has created the impression that the Muslims can do as they please, any other group beware!
Time to rethink and reappraise the manner in which these affairs are policed – after all, if the police can baton charge the Countryside Alliance demonstration outside Parliament or wade into a protest organised by the BNP, why can they not stop a protest calling for the killing of UK citizens and our EU partners? Guido is strongly of the opinion that the government needs to think very carefully about the message that sends out to the taxpaying and voting public!
