A passing…
On Friday morning I attended the funeral of Cllr Terry Mills at Holy Trinity Church in Bracknell. It was a most interesting affair and rather less mawkish than some funerals. It truly reflected that person that was Terry. There was more Dylan than Christ relayed to the packed audience. His daughters, colleagues and friends spoke from the heart rather than reading words of others. It was a celebration of his life rather than a lament for his passing.
Afterwards there was a nice reception, with a display in pictures of his life, at a nearby hotel. It was a chance for people from his various outlets to chat about their memories of the man.
I came into contact with Terry during a several intense sessions of leafleting in his and John Harrison’s ward. It was my penance for using John’s house as a rehearsal/crash pad for the band while we were working on our various sessions in the studio. While you would expect to chat non-stop politics with the two local politicians; I spent more time talking about music with Terry than the machinations of British politics. I had the pleasure of attending a rugby match/annual lunch a few months back as well and thus saw Terry in a more casual setting. As you would expect he loved the good things in life: fine cigars and good booze. While I did not work with him as closely as John; I shall miss him greatly. I am sure that I will think of Terry whenever I visit Bracknell.
I can well imagine how much he will be missed by his local community, friends, colleagues and family. He was a great man and one I am honoured to have the priveldge to know him.

Chapter 19
Scenes of the battle were all over the news. The back-up team was sent out when the news editor received a weak and garbled call from the second cameraman that they were incapacitated. To avoid any possibility of losing another news crew the new team was sent by helicopter to the scene. Because of police investigations the helicopter landed on the road where it all happened. After medics confirmed that all in the car were dead, he handed the new arrivals a small square piece of plastic. “We found you r cameraman holding this.”
“Thank god there was no fire or we wouldhave lost it.” The medic thought he heard. Used to the cynicism of the media, the medic carried on and walked back to the ambulance thereby avoiding a request for an interview. The medic reflecting on how fortunate the people in the house had been that there was no explosion on impact with the estate.
