Taking a nutter seriously

December 11th, 2005 | Category: Anti-Semitism/Jewery, Middle East, Terrorism

Mark Steyn urges policymakers to take the Iranian president, a Holocaust denier and wannabe nuclear power-wielder, seriously. So far, the attitude of the West, including the United States, has been fairly low-key. I am not sure what will or can happen in the coming months as the Iraq campaign drags on but I’d imagine that military planners are or should be looking very hard at their options. An airstrike on the model of Israel’s destruction of Iraq’s Osirak nuclear plant might be inevitable.

Big risks and reduced services?

December 11th, 2005 | Category: Politics

One of the biggest features of the “new” Fire and Rescue Service is the reduced crew level and, especially when it comes to night cover, frequently a reduced response. After all, or so the argument goes, there is no threat to life if there is a fire in a large industrial complex after midnight. Or is there? It would seem that the Hertfordshirt Fire and Rescue Service has, on this occassion, been exceptionally lucky. The blast at the fuel depot – the fifth largest in the UK - has caused widespread damage, but has not, so far, killed anyone. The problem now, for our brainless wonders in Whitehall who interfere and “damage” services and matters over which they have absolutely no understanding, is to continue to deny that the worst fires and greates damage by fire is almost invariably in instances which occur after midnight – the very time they, and their poodles in the “Damagement” of the service, say they can reduce the response and reduce the crew numbers responding!

Hemel Hempstead explosion

December 11th, 2005 | Category: Announcements

John of at the England Project is live blogging the event as he lives nearby. No fatalities and 39, most of whom are walking wounded, from the blast.

There is a Wikipedia entry on this explosion; so far it is not said to be suspicious at this time merely an accident.

Fortunately the black cloud caused by the fire and explosion is heading over to Belgium where it won’t do any harm.

Wouldn’t it be nice if more musicians showed such good sense? And he knows wherefore he speaks as well; at least about the rehab bit.

Matt…redux

December 11th, 2005 | Category: Blog gos

John Harrison and I met Matt & his good lady for a few drinks with a few friends. We had a few good drinks and we were taken to a rather enjoyable party. A good time was had by all. I chatted to several musos from bands known and not.

As for the cretin who wears the livery and refused to stop…I wish him only ill. A black cab who does not live up to the proper standard is a blaggard and a cad…a disgrace to his trade. Comments are off for this post
