Colby Cosh liked Serenity despite the fans
Canada’s great man of letters, Colby Cosh, has a great writeup about the movie Serenity as well as the woes of watching films with annoying movie-goers. He finds some of the Firefly fandom a bit of a pain in the arse, but try as he might to dislike Jos Whedon’s production, says the film is excellent. Your humble scribe is off to see it this evening with his better half. I’ll post my thoughts later.

The great Peter Briffa links to this crazy story in which the Human Rights brigade are demanding that prisoners be given the right to vote in general elections. I think it is a superb idea. Surely, rapists, murderers, kiddie-molesters and thieves should be allowed to have their say in the future of the nation. After all, we have a Chav for a Prime Minister, so why should not so many of our delightful if incarcerated citizens not have the chance to vote for him?

A British advertising agency is insisting that budding Santa Claus’s must be less slobbish and scruffy in their demeanor in future. Good stuff. In an age when standards seem to be on the skids everywhere, it is good that Father Christmas is under pressure to remain smart and cuddly. My only reservation about this story is that it implies, clearly, that there is more than one Father C. in the world. This is a terrible lapse for a news agency. When I was in journalism school, it was drummed into us that we should never imply that Father C. was, er, not for real.
