Good anti-Islamist blog

October 31st, 2005 | Category: Anti-Semitism/Jewery, Blog gos, ROPMA, Religion, Terrorism

Gates of Vienna are trying to expose islamists in the US like Jamaat-ul-Fuqra. The blog makes for some sobering reading. Its not only the UK which has its share of home-growm Islamo-loons. Here is a good anti-extremism site…check out this bit of sobering expose.

Engage, who specialise in focusing on anti-semiticism on the left, have an interesting piece on just that subject. It is an interesting piece despite it cheap jibes against Republicans & Tories.

Coincidence? I Think Not

October 31st, 2005 | Category: All Hallow's Eve

Here’s the synopsis for a cheery little film called Gallows Hollow:

50 years ago it was rumored that Robert Gallow murdered his young wife, Mary. The following year he was found gutted and hanging in the trees… they left behind a baby girl. This morning the bodies of seven campers were found. They were gutted and hanging in the trees.

“target=”new”>It looks quite well done, but I didn’t see all of it. It clocks in at some 19 minutes, and as I have the pumpkinway.5 attention-span of a gnat, I started looking at other things, switching back to the window when I heard something interesting, like bloodcurdling screams.

In the meantime I found this video from a band named Turbonegro. (Hey, I don’t make up the names. I just report them.) It wasn’t the greatest song in the world, but the theme seemed right for a Halloween post.

At that point, something weird happened. The video for the song was playing merrily along when the movie reappeared . . . in the very same window. This went on for a couple of minutes. Then my browser crashed.

I doubt that it was caused by anything Satanic, such as Microsoft. More likely some random supernatural force of evil.

(The jack o’lantern pictured above is one of many distinctive carvings at this site, any of which can be sent as e-cards.)

Prince Chuck to lecture Dubya

October 30th, 2005 | Category: Middle East, Politics, ROPMA

Prince Charles, Britain’s own jug-eared champion of greenery, classical architecture and field sports enthusiast, is to lecture George W. Bush about the supposed merits of Islam. The presumption is quite embarrassing. Bush is a religious man and went out of his way after 9/11 to make it clear that the United States had no problem with Islam per se, but with those who have used that religion to justify mass slaughter of innocent civilians. I am pretty certain that Bush will tell Charles about that.

Lefty blogs have their merits

October 30th, 2005 | Category: Amusements, Politics

I had not come across the “In Search of Utopia” blog before until I was idly surfing around a few sites I regularly visit and was intrigued by the title. The blog tilts fairly left and the author, for example, has a sort of earnest bafflement, for example, that black people could actually hold conservative (in the American usage) political views. Amazing. Black people supporting capitalism and property rights! Crazy stuff. But how can one be harsh on a blog that carries such a fantastic banner picture at its masthead?

The blog also has other merits as well. (Just scroll down! Heh.)

Iranian official policy

October 28th, 2005 | Category: Anti-Semitism/Jewery, Politics, ROPMA, Terrorism

Wiped off the Map The EU is even upset at this bluntness. And the Iranians can’t see what the big deal is. Damian has a few choices excerpts from the BBC talkback page. Murray makes a clear and accurate point. So I wonder if this will final kill off the daft comments about Iran not being a threat to Israel. Ms Philips has a few words to say about this revelation as well needless to say.

Update: Buckethead perfidiously weighs in on the issue.

Update II: A poster says a a thousand words and should make the Iranian stance clear to even the most dense of apologists Muslim extremism.

Update III: Colby Cosh points out a few mistakes in the CNN coverage of the affair.

robotpsyche2Another Worth1000 photoshopping contest in mixing genres; in this case, classical themes and, er, robots.

The original (woman, not robot) was titled “Le Ravissement de Psyche [The Rapture of Psyche],” painted in 1895 by William Bouguereau and can be seen here. (The story of Psyche here.) It’s a fine example of representational art, which fell into critical disfavor with the rise of the Impressionists.

There’s more of similar calibre at the Art Renewal site (Warning: some nudity, both partial and implied). To my untutored eye, at least, they’re comparable to the work of the Renaissance masters.

To a fallen friend

October 27th, 2005 | Category: Announcements

This is by far the most difficult thing I have had to write as a writer and a blogger. Dodgeblogium and its sister sites (both live & dormant) have lost a true friend in the form of Heather “Mommabear’. It is the final act in what has been a long an eventful life. This year she had to bury her husband who ended his own life so that hers might be easier in her final days. I know full well that Heather, a cantankerous lady, will have fought the cancer that took her with every bit of her being.

We have known each other since I pinched her from Samizdata to keep tabs on my writing excesses. She has edited this blog in its various forms, Liberty Cadre, GoD blog, The Dark Side blog, my posts on Blogcritics and the stories that have ended up on both Temple of Dagon & in my book The Gathering Dark & other tales. She was a filter for most of my writing and kept it fairly clean and tidy. I would not been in the position where I am as a writer without her considerable effort on my behalf. We spoke almost every day on MSN and often shared a virtual pint.

To say that Mommabear, one of the Bellicose women, will be missed is an understatement in extremis. My life and that of countless others will be a wee bit darker from now on.

Mommabear Requiem in Pace.

Grey Monk has paid his own tribute; as has Sortapundit, Laughing Wolf and of course, her friend and fellow BW Kathy has posted something. Alan has posted something as well. For the record MB never stopped posting she just became JFM when she posted for me.

David Blair who found the documents responds to the horse’s arse Galloway about what actually happened in Iraq that day. Galloway needless to say denies he lied to the Senate committee. Harry’s points us to a piece where Hitchens aims a few hits at GG and lands them well. There are some interesting discussions going on at Daily Ablution (who is doing a fund-raiser) and and Samizdata.

Firing Blanks

October 26th, 2005 | Category: Politics

National Post:

OTTAWA - Federal and provincial justice ministers will consider a proposal next month to sue U.S. gun manufacturers as part of a plan to stem the flow of illegal handguns across the border, federal Justice Minister Irwin Cotler said yesterday.

Oh, great. This is the same braintrust that hit upon the idea of suing Canadian tobacco manufacturers in US courts, a tactic so novel that it was laughed out of every court they tried it in. Not before it cost us millions of dollars, of course.

Earlier, Prime Minister Paul Martin indicated it was among the issues he intended to raise with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

Word that Canadian governments could sue gun makers came as a spate of weekend violence in Toronto continued, with at least two more daylight shootings in Canada’s largest city.

Mr. Martin said at a news conference up to half of all gun crimes in Canada are committed by individuals using firearms that have been smuggled into the country.

He added that the U.S. has an “obligation” to get tough on gun smuggling by working more actively with Canada.

Where have I heard this huffy argument before? After 9/11, when it was thought that some of the terrorists had crossed through the Canadian border (none had). But yes, ultimate responsibility rested with US Customs. Just as it is Canada Customs’ obligation to control what comes into this country.

It’s bad enough you’ve abdicated our military responsibilities to the Americans; now you want them to perform basic border duties? (The government had to be embarrassed into providing bulletproof vests for [unarmed] Customs officers when US law agencies started donating used ones to us.)

Tell you what: how about we outsource your jobs to the Yanks? They couldn’t possibly be as inept at governance as you clowns.

Cotler wanders off-message:

Mr. Cotler cautioned that the federal government cannot sue gun makers and provincial governments may have difficulty in the U.S., where President George W. Bush has sided with firearms producers when asked to comment on similar domestic court battles.

Well, duh. If your high-priced legal talent had been following the news instead of ordering up new Beemers and Savile Row suits, they might have noticed this item from just last week:

CNN:

WASHINGTON (AP)—Congress gave the gun lobby its top legislative priority Thursday, passing a bill that would protect the firearms industry from massive lawsuits brought by crime victims. The White House says President Bush will sign it into law.

The House voted 283-144 to send the bill to the president after supporters, led by the National Rifle Association, proclaimed it vital to protect the industry from being bankrupted by huge jury awards.

Kinda blows a hole in your little rowboat, doesn’t it? You want to combat gun violence in Toronto? Harassing farmers in Saskatchewan and duck hunters in Alberta isn’t going to do it.

Waving your hands in the air and blaming the Americans isn’t going to do it either; but that’s exactly what you’ll do. It’s the Liberal Way.™

Don’t mention their race!

October 25th, 2005 | Category: Political Correctness, UK Politics

Two groups of young men riot/rampage and end up killing 2 people (one targeted for being black) and how does the media report it? Well the media does not bother mentioning their race that is for sure. If it had been a battle between young white thugs and Asian ones would the race of the non-Asians be mentioned? Course it would have…just like there were two “community” leaders on Newsnight who tried to pin the whole non-white riot thing on anti-ethnic racism. Never mind the fact that a group of Asian youths targeted, tracked down and killed a Afro-Carribean kid. No racism there…nope…none at all move on.

Update: Biased BBC has a piece by Natalie Solent on his dangerous this lack of reporting can be in the long run.

Miers nomination

October 24th, 2005 | Category: Politics

While hanging out with a bunch of political hacks at Matthew’s house-warming party (pic below) Saturday I was asked several times about my take on the Miers nomination. I got to tell you I am neutral on the Miers nomination. She does not move me to heavily support or oppose her. I suppose this is probably a good thing for a sitting SCOTUS judge, rather than say for a Chief Justice. I actually think its a fairly good thing that the extremes are in a lather. It will be interesting to see how it turns out in the end.

Leo is a Doc.

October 21st, 2005 | Category: Announcements, Politics

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Witch doctored just in time for Halloween.

LP Ruickbie has been awarded a PhD from Kings College, London, for his work on witchcraft. Dr Ruickbie has been studying modern witchcraft what it is, who does it, what effect it has on them and what it means for the rest of us. His conclusions might raise a few eyebrows.

His thesis, called The Re-Enchanters: Theorising Re-Enchantment and Testing for its Presence in Modern Witchcraft, grapples with a central paradigm in social theory: that we live in a disenchanted world. It is a world we are familiar with: bureaucratic, disempowering and devoid of meaning, and a world in which there is no such thing as magic. But for one section of society, at least, that is no longer the case.

Dr Ruickbie discovered that magic works, but not in the way we expect. He found that people who called themselves witches were re-enchanted. This involved non-rational modes of knowing, the seeking of magical salvation, mystical experience, mythological explanation and personal empowerment. They believed in personal gods and in a living, spiritual world in which everything is interconnected. What this means is that, unlike most of the rest of us, they felt their lives had more meaning and purpose, that they now lived better lives.

For more information Dr Ruickbie can be contacted via his websites: www.witchology.com and www.witchcraftoutoftheshadows.com. Kings College, London, general enquiries can be contacted by telephone on +44 (0) 20 7836 5454, or e-mail ceu@kcl.ac.uk.

The streets are strewn with dead leaves and the air is crisp and wintry. It can mean only one thing—we are in the season of falling. Warning: music.

One should always be polite to the lighting grip in a TV studio. Or he will try to kill you.

What we think of as “risky” is very often not so. An onlooker might be appalled at the recklessness of an act, but the conscientious daredevil has assessed the dangers and instinctively seeks the safest course.

Say you wanted to jump off the roof of a house wearing roller skates. How could that possibly go wrong? Warning: Banners might not be SFW.

What kind of General?

William Wallace
You scored 77 Wisdom, 62 Tactics, 65 Guts, and 41 Ruthlessness!
Like William Wallace, chances are you have no problem charging a larger, better trained, better equipped, better armed and armored English army with a band of naked drunken Scotsmen. I’m not contesting that you have balls. It’s your brain function I’m worried about.

Scottish soldier and national hero. The first historical record of Wallace’s activities concerns the burning of Lanark by Wallace and 30 men in May, 1297, and the slaying of the English sheriff, one of those whom Edward I of England had installed in his attempt to make good his claim to overlordship of Scotland. After the burning of Lanark many joined Wallace’s forces, and under his leadership a disciplined army was evolved. Wallace marched on Scone and met an English force of more than 50,000 before Stirling Castle in Sept., 1297. The English, trying to cross a narrow bridge over the Forth River, were killed as they crossed, and their army was routed. Wallace crossed the border and laid waste several counties in the North of England. In December he returned to Scotland and for a short time acted as guardian of the realm for the imprisoned king, John de Baliol . In July, 1298, Edward defeated Wallace and his army at Falkirk, and forced him to retreat northward. His prestige lost, Wallace went to France in 1299 to seek the aid of King Philip IV, and he possibly went on to Rome. He is heard of again fighting in Scotland in 1304, but there was a price on his head, and in 1305 he was captured by Sir John de Menteith. He was taken to London in Aug., 1305, declared guilty of treason, and executed. The best-known source for the life of Wallace is a long romantic poem attributed to Blind Harry, written in the 15th century.

Swedish6Iran Defence.Net (no affiliation with the Iranian Govt.) has dozens of photographs up of military women around the world. Not all of them are as stunning as the Swedish soldier pictured here, but there are some remarkably pretty ones there.

One thing I know for sure—I’d hate to be the 2nd lieutenant in charge of the platoon that she was in. Never mind getting my men to focus their attention on our mission; I’d be more worried about keeping them from killing each other for the privilege of carrying her rucksack and rifle.

We’d be much more comfortable with this German tentfrau, who appears to be having a very bad hair day.

The sequel

October 18th, 2005 | Category: Andrew's non-mythos tales

Like any good zombie flickalright any zombie movieI am not sure good ever qualifies for anything in the genre. Well, Claire and I wanted to hear what was going to happen to hapless colleague Rupert, stuck on an island full of people convinced they were zombies but werent. As a veteran of fights with age-old nasties, Rupert was well equipped to fight real monsters. But then again, he was never good at dealing with the human variety.

I dont always write down my tales for posterity, or well, for anyone, but this one was just different. Rupert was a bear to be around when he first got backIn fact Eden had to reprimand him after one particular outburst. She was able to out stare, growl, menace himjust.

What follows is Claires transcription of Ruperts report of the end of his plight. Claire did a very good job at keeping a straight face as he told us how got out of the mess. We thought it a good idea to get it in writing lest there be any come-back from whatever he had done. So, you see, in some ways we were a bit apprehensive of just which did happen on that island.

Hate’s many faces

First of all Damian exposes one of the leader of the Millions More March coming to DC…you want cred…don’t invite Farrakan to the party. BTW another organised Russell Simmons was on Fox yesterday and refused to condem the NOI leader for his comments about Jews and about the levees in NOLA. Its gets worse Damian has even more on the judenhass scum behind the march.

Harry has a nice piece on the nature of the word coloured in the UK’s race relation industry.

On an as amusing as pathetic note Scott examines some of the anti-Bush lunacy going around including the God comment (ie the one he didn’t make) and the lastest one claiming that Bush makes decisions in cocaine rages. Oh yes and crack addicted squirrels make an appearance as well…not blamed on Bush yet but who knows?

Update: Those nice Germans are helping to fund (and give awards to) anti-Israeli propoganda. Well its not like Germans are known for their encouragement of anti-Jewish “art”. David has more on this appalling development.

Update II: Speaking of hate. Guess who is getting attacked more in the US? Is it Muslims as claimed by CAIR or Jews? Yourish has the ugly truth.
