Yorke on Blair…

September 30th, 2005 | Category: Bloody insane stuff, Politics

Thom Yorke is making an arse of himself again. Take a look at this bit from CMU.

He writes: “Friends of the Earth have asked me whether I would meet Tony Blair at Downing Street to discuss what our government is not doing about climate change. I don’t know if this will ever happen for certain…. it is rattling around in the back of my mind and concerns me a lot. I have no intention of being used by spider spin doctors to make it look like we make progress when it is just words. I’d love to know what you think but I can’t ask. You’d say ‘oh there he goes again interfering and meddling in politics – why doesn’t he get on with the music and shut up?’ Perhaps because I feel like a hypocrite if don’t do anything, and equally feel like a hypocrite if I try getting involved.”

It’s fair enough. I think I’d probably feel that way too. Anyway, Yorke then had a direct pop at the prime minister: “Blair has been uttering nonsense lately about Kyoto and such, real la la stuff… looks like the American right have finally eaten his mind… blah blah. Why on earth would I meet this man? Or perhaps that is exactly why I should. But I don’t have powers of persuasion; I just have temper and an acid tongue.”

Considering the rubbish that emerges from Thom’s mind its a bit rich saying that Blair’s brain has been eaten. At least he realises that most of us just want him STFU and make music. After all who is going to suffer if the UK invokes the Kyoto Protocols? Rich opinionated arsewipes like Thom or the workers champagne socialists like him claim to be trying to look after?

For WLOB listeners…

September 30th, 2005 | Category: Announcements

We, at Dodgeblogium, welcome you the WLOB listeners to our humble blog. I do rather enjoy my 5 minutes updating Mainers to the goings-on in London. My colleague Jon P has written a great piece on the Tory leadership battle for Liberty Cadre.

I have mentioned a 7/7 inspired song I wrote called ‘Cry Freedom’ for my band Growing Old Disgracefully. Here are the lyrics. We plan to send a copy of the song to Ray when it is finished; hopefully it will be finished today to send off to the distributor CD-Baby.

NB: If you are interested in reading some good writing from the reasonable left head to Harry’s Place.

Another Dodge on the block

September 30th, 2005 | Category: Amusements

I used to be the only large scary looking Dodge in Pimlico.

Not anymore. But can you imagine driving the thing on the streets of London? Still it must be great fun to know that you are driving car-hating loons like Ken Livingston into apoplexy if he sees you.

I love it when advocates of capitalism and the free market use the very cliches and terms of abuse minted by the idiot Left around and turn them into slogans. Go check out the excellent Capitalist Pig LLC website, written and put together by a very smart guy who knows how to make money. He also has excellent merchandise.

Its paranoid nuttery which is so daft its amusing to read. I think you would not be far off if you were assume that Jews zionists are the actual target of the rant.

Things in need of your eyes…

September 28th, 2005 | Category: Blog gos

BOMS is up this week with Salvador Dali as its virtual host. The Britblogger round-up has appeared over at Tim’s. Lawrence hosts the Carnival and surprisingly its not full of crap. The Bonfire is up as well and is rather bitchy. Nice!

There is an interview up with the author of the curiously entitled There Are Liberals Under My Bed!

And its that time again…another Storyblogging Carnival is up. If you need some woof in your day head to the Carnival of the Dogs.

The First Post has some interesting pieces in it this week including one on how gap year naive-but-earnest teenagers do more harm than good in Africa and a piece about Tory troubles.

Slugger has got an interesting piece on the truth.

Time to don the browncoats and fire up the starship

September 27th, 2005 | Category: Music

Yes, the day is nearly upon us. Jos Whedon’s brilliant Firefly television series, cruelly cut short by Fox after just 13 episodes, is reborn as a movie Serenity. It goes out on cinema release in a few days’ time. Most early reviews seem pretty good.

Here is the official website. It rocks.

Romero is a pain

September 25th, 2005 | Category: Andrew's Cthulhu tales, Politics

The Sage thought to himself this was an odd way to entitle an email from a sub-tropical island paradise. Well it is from Ruperthe is that much of miserable sod.

The Sage continued reading the email and started to understand what the hell Rupert was on about. Andrew desperately attempted not to laugh at the plight of his friend, but oh it was hard. Claire noticed The Sage snickering and inquired. By this time, Eden had her ears up and was glaring at her master.

The Sage responded trying to hide his amusement. Its fromhehRuperthehand he is um surrounded by er hostile not-dead. Ah…they are besieging him.

What? Is he in trouble? What has got into you Andrew? spluttered Claire.

No…er, yes, he is in trouble, but not really. Er

Why is it funny? Claire asked confused and not a bit miffed.

Friday Film Fest

September 24th, 2005 | Category: Video

Some of that crazy table tennis humor. What will those wacksters think of next?

A tradition at Wrigley Field in Chicago is to have a visiting celebrity lead the crowd in a chorus of “Take Me Out To The Ball Game.” Ozzy Osbourne drooled his way through a recent performance, forgetting most of the words. Unfortunately former American Idol contestant William Hung remembered them.

Update: That was apparently filmed at Toronto’s Skydome, not Wrigley Field.

I haven’t seen this technique before, a sort of interactive Quick Time clip. Wait for it to load and then click on glowing objects in it (teapot, etc.) and the character will respond.

Warning: The subject matter is very dark and unpleasant—it involves a self-mutilating doll. I’m not being ironic or coy about this. If you’re likely to be disturbed by it, please don’t click the link.

Libertarian or lefties?

September 23rd, 2005 | Category: UK Politics

Sholto Byrnes thinks the Lib-Dems should finally make up their mind what they want to be as a party. Considering how badly the fiscal liberals got hammered this week in the votes I think there is a clear sign they are going for the leftie path. In fact I think they should just drop the Liberal party of their name and call themselves social democrats.

Where to go this week…

September 22nd, 2005 | Category: Blog gos

Tim has his Britblogger selections up for this Sunday. And the carnivals of Dogs and Cordite are ready to be read as well. Gary’s Bestof is ready for your reading pleasure. Da Carnival is going over the skwib! There’s a Bonfire a’blazin on File it Under.

And for those pagans that aren’t uber-lefties there is a new blog called Right Wing of the Gods.

Even more fun is the latest Carnival of the Wicked. A certain mythos writer and rocker is meant to be a feature next issue. I wonder who I could mean?

Charlie don’t do much…

September 22nd, 2005 | Category: UK Politics

While doing my normal writing stuff this week I have been watching the Lib-Dem conference coverage compared by that ole’ curmudgeon Andrew Neil. To wit I just got finished watching Charles Kennedy deliver his conference closer.

One thing it has to be said about Charlie and his party…they are not liberal in any sense of the word. In fact I find it rather grating when oiks like Kennedy evoke the memory of 19th Century liberals. These great men would hardly recognise the party these days. Instead of liberal ideals they are pseudo-socialist high tax & spend authoritarians (think American left-wing Democrats). They are pro-Saddam, pro-EU and anti-American/Israel. (There was a discussion about minorities in parliament and funny enough Jews were never mentioned even thought every other grouping was.) There are those who have tried to drag the L-Ds back to their roots and they were soundly condemned by their leader. They were also routed by the conference as a whole on every motion. How the L-Ds can call themselves liberal is beyond me. They are anything but.

British politics are a bit nuts right now. We have a potential Tory leader who is to the left of the Labour Prime Minister. A Labour Party that is right-of-centre (or believed to be so) and a Liberal party that is way out on the left. We live in interesting times.

The Bully as Victim: Teaching Kids to Hate

MADRID, Sept. 15, 2005 (Ral Rivero/www.cubaencuentro.com) – [Introduction: For more than forty years the Cuban government has organized “acts of repudiation” in which mobs are directed to besiege the homes of dissidents, threatening them with violence. Groups of schoolchildren are often brought in to take part in this repression. In the essay printed below, Ral Rivero reflects on a Sept. 10 “act of repudiation” in Ciego de Avila directed against Juan Carlos Gonzlez Leiva, a blind lawyer, dissident and independent librarian who was recently released from prison].

Britannia continues apace

September 20th, 2005 | Category: Andrew's Tales, Andrew's non-mythos tales

Chapter 10

“Damn it!” swore the former Vicar. “How the hell did the pols get know about fucking Birmingham. We have a bloody leak. I knew it!” The vid, a device that Jervis loathed was solemnly announcing the sucess of the Euro-pols in thwarting this latest threat to Union tranquility. The vid turned on the news automatically whenever there was a new item. The group’s new electronics/explosive expert installed a make shift device so Jervis could keep track of what was going on in the Union.
Jervis never intended to blow up the Cliff Richard Memorial Concert, but he was intending to make it look as though he was planning to. A threat. The disruption caused by a few hoax calls would have been better than any bomb. But with the reimforces presence of pols, his team would have no chance of getting away with it. “Still, we have got them worried enough to have seconded every available pol and Army reservist for 100 miles the UEC. A perfect terrorist target.” The Vicar sighed. “We are not in a position to take advantage of it…bugger.”
The babbling of the vid finally got to Jervis and he shut the thing off very gently as he forced himself to avoid destroying the thing with one blow.
Michaela and David sat watching their vid screen in their flat. They were at once worried and amazed by the pace of recent events. David, a confirmed news junkie before this, barely ever left the sight of the vid. When he was not within vid range, he listened to it on his internal system. For the first time in a long time, David had not listened to his music for almost a week. With the help of the vid, he was collecting hours and hours of taped bits of his favourite music channel. By this time, David had all buy forgotten the stock of music chips that Rob brought over last time he visited. Michaela was surprised at David’s attention to details in the media. It always had been her job to worry about the world around and let David wallow in his own protected (by her) world. On the other side of the picture, David was very worried about his wife. Michaela’s lack of interest in the unfolding events on the screen was very unusual. The revolution she had long predicted was coming to fruition and she seemed remote from it.
