What an arse…CoV host gets bolshy

August 17th, 2005 | Category: Blog gos

CoV is up at WILLisms. The host does not seem to get the spirit of CoV and has instituted a rating system which is pretty nasty. Expect fireworks from this one. I expect it is deliberate. Will probably increase his hits significantly. He doesn’t take construction criticism very well either. How pathetic.

Frankly, the average reader just won’t get anything out of the post you submitted. I know I didn’t…

How very nice. What does this bloke think he is? The editor of the Times Literary Review?

NB: We routinely submit posts from this site to the Bonfire to get roasted.

Update: Follow the link and you will see that I am not the only one who has objected.

Update II: Oh boy Murray has followed the above link and is not happy.

And they have an interesting piece on what happens when NASA is done with stuff. An amusing quote is this one.

Preston Burch, manager of Hubble Operations at the Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland says “Engineers by nature are pack rats, hanging onto old junk. If you ever came to my office, it would scare you.”

If would probably not occur to the bureaucrat geeks at NASA to sell of some of their stuff to make up some of the money they piss away spend each year on administrative costs.

Go check out The First Post and see what you think. It has a few former Telegraph people writing for it and it looks rather good. Of course, I am a bit miffed they sent me a heads-up email after their launch party.

Bill Colby & Friends

I have listened to this CD once and while not my cup of tea lyrically per se as an unbeliever it does come off as decent folk-rock. Rather than preaching set to music; there are actually songs on this CD. Its similar in appraochability to Michael W Smith. Colby’s voice is similar to that of Warren Zevon and the mixing & mastering of this CD is rather impressive for a self-released CD. The sheer professionalism and class of this release is most impressive indeed. A full review will follow soon, but intial impressions are good.

Lost In Translation

starwars

Speaking of strange translations, these are screenshots of a pirated Chinese copy of the recent Star Wars release, Revenge of the Sith with English (sort of) subtitles. The title itself is rendered as “The backstroke of the west.” Very funny, but be warned that some of the dialogue contains profanity.

The reference to the Presbyterian Church seems mystifying, but a commenter who knows Chinese explains:

Probably the translation for the Jedi Council is “Council of Elders”, “zhang lao hui”. It just so happens that “hui” can mean both “council” and “church”, and in fact the translation of “Presbyterian Church” is also “zhang lao hui”.
