Justin Raimondo, down in the gutter as usual
Justin Raimondo, the man who puts “loony” into libertarianism, has sunk to another depth by claiming that the Israeli authorities may have known of a bomb threat to London but for their own dastardly reasons, did nothing about it.
Let’s get this straight from the start. I have no problem with critics of the war in Iraq or Afghanistan. There are legitimate criticisms to be made of the doctrine of preventative war, and indeed many liberals down the years have pointed out the dangers of how wars can give governments cover to expand the powers of the state (Mr Blair, alas, is no exception). I know a few libertarians who disagree with me about Iraq but I manage to stay on civil terms with them, such as Sean Gabb or Jim Henley, for instance.
But Raimondo is something quite different. He gives libertarianism a bad name. The jerk is an embarrassment.

Sir – Ever since we so stupidly went to war with Iraq, I have been convinced that, far from defeating terrorism, we have greatly increased the likelihood of terrorist attacks.Nothing can excuse the activities of extremists, but what has happened was bound to happen. Hang your head in shame, Mr Blair. Better still, resign – and whoever takes over should immediately withdraw all our forces from Iraq and Afghanistan.
Our nation was never threatened by Saddam Hussein; nor was world peace. The war in Iraq was all about revenge for the September 11 attack on the World Trade Centre. The terrorist action in Iraq now is virtually impossible to control or overcome.
I hope that whomever attends this cretin’s parish church begins a campaign to get rid of him. The inherent idiocy is this letter beggars belief. The only person who needs to hang his head in shame is Rev. Ketley and whomever allows him to continue to preach. He a classic example of the rot that is killing the Church of England.
1 commentThe Day after
I plan to write later on this subject but wanted to write a few words on the aftermath and the events of yesterday. First of all, I want to thank all the people who commented, linked, emailed, and rang me to express their concern for me & my friends in London. I am so impressed with the security services and the press in London it beggars belief. Samizdata has a good piece by someone returning to work. I hope all of you my dear readers have been able to get in touch with friends and family in this wonderful city. We, at Dodgeblogium, express our condolences to all those who lost loved ones and friends in this most heinous of all crimes.
It is time for all of us to get up, dust ourselves off, and sally forth. We owe it to Londoners of the past; of that I am in no doubt.
1 commentThe End Of The Beginning
I wasn’t going to post on this today, as I didn’t have much to offer about the horrors in London except my sincerest hopes that the pigs who did it are caught as soon as possible. If some of them suffer fatal injuries while “resisting” arrest, so much the better.
I decided to look at Mark Steyn’s website to see if he’d had anything to say. There was a note saying that he would be on Hugh Hewitt’s radio show in the afternoon (transcript here) and that he would have a new column out at midnight in the Telegraph.
Immediately below that, though, was a link to a piece he’d written for the Spectator, dated for Saturday of this week, but obviously written a couple of days ago. As always, the man’s prescience is eerie:
It feels like summer. Summer 2001, that is. Then, as now, Africa was in the news. There was a big UN conference on racism in Durban the week before 11 September. Remember that? They demanded America pay reparations for the Rwandan genocide. And Robert Mugabe was cheered to the rafters when he called on the United States and the United Kingdom to apologise unreservedly for their crimes against humanity....
at Ground Zero and in Hyde Park, weve taken four years to come back to where we were on 10 September 2001.
Here’s the “target=”new”>link to it. (Registration required; or you could try this login / password combo from Bug Me Not: lag...@cam.ac.uk / password )
Now go get the bastards who did this.
