Banana republic
I don’t have much time for ex-BBC journalist and Spectator regular Rod Liddle, who has always struck me as a rather louche character, but this article in the Spectator about the scandal of postal voting is dead-on. It stinks to high heaven. Britain’s forthcoming poll on May 5 is starting to resemble Florida 2000. I hope the Tories have hired plenty of lawyers.

Your reference to “Florida 2000” puzzles me, unless you allude to the Gore campaign’s attempt to exclude absentee ballots from overseas military personnel, or their attempts to cook recounts only in counties controlled by Democrat boards. Post-election inspections of Florida ballots by the AP, Washington Post, Miami Herald, and other news organizations concluded that Bush had indeed won Florida. A better illustration of putrid vote-counting might be St. Louis, Milwaukee, or King County, Washington.
