DaVinci Code paranoia?
While their idiotic condom policy dooms thousands to die of AIDS in Africa & they sweep pedophilia in the Church under the carpet; the Catholic Church has decided that something deserves their attention more. They are making a special effort to debunk The DaVinci Code, which as we all know is a novel. They claim it is a deliberate attempt to smear the Church. Personally, I think Dan Brown has better things to do, and besides, the Catholic Church do an extremely good job of smearing themselves. This response will only encourage the conspiracy theorists.

Here is Amy Welborn’s response to “only a novel” sentiments:

I would add this. A good alternate history (which this book is, in part) should enable the reader to determine what is history and what is fiction. Critics claim the book does not – and that DCV bears false witness against one of the main “characters” of the book – the Catholic Church. (Amy also alludes to charges that Leonardo himself is misrepresented.)
I’m a Protestant, so I’m not against offending Catholcs in principle. Actually, I support offending everybody, as long as the offense is truthful. Maybe I could put that in practice by writing on the Reformation
(The Calvinists would be particularly peeved.)
