A Passel O’ Puzzles

March 31st, 2005 | Category: Games

I’m in a owly mood, so I have decided to offer you unsolvable puzzles. It’s a mean thing to do; but being owly, I don’t give a hoot. (This is sort of where the metaphor breaks down.)

Anywhoo, the first two are of the click-on-things-and-hope-something-happens variety. In this one, you try to get the woman home. To get her up the staircase, click on the hanging icicle first. You can also click on the chimney of the cabin in the background and a man will come out to collect wood from the woodpile. That’s where the game ends — or at least it did for me, because I couldn’t figure out what the hell to do after that.

This is one of those room-escaping puzzles, in this case a prisoner in a jail. You can smash the light bulb, move the bone around (something to do with the dog, no doubt), and use the dish to gather water to drink and to revive the flower. What you can’t do is get out of the cell, or so I concluded after about half-an-hour.

This is a number puzzle that is impossible in the sense that I am generally lousy at these types of games. I’m sure it won’t be an insurmountable challenge to those who like the genre. Via A Welsh View.

(All of them have music and/or sfx, but nothing too obtrusive.)

Links collection…

March 31st, 2005 | Category: Blog gos

The Storyblogging Carnival is up and it features a tale I wrote while at my alma malus. Kinky Friedman is hosting the Symphony, at least in a virtual sense. The Bonfire is simmering away over at American Princess. Well there is always the original…who still rock. The Britblogger collection for the week is over at Tim’s.

Meanwhile, while not a blogger, Liam is rather pleased with this review of his most recent book.

A bunch of Houston bloggers are having a meeting. If you like anywhere near em’, go check it out.

Great piece on the Israel= Nazi Germany meme

March 30th, 2005 | Category: Anti-Semitism/Jewery, Politics

TCS has a great piece on the attempt by anti-Zionists to delegitimise the existence of Israel by comparing it to Nazi Germany. It makes for pretty sobering reading. I didn’t used to think this for a long time but now I am sure of it: if you don’t believe in Israel’s right to exist, you are a judenhass.

At the recently opened (March-Sept.) Expo 2005 in Aichi, Japan, visitors to the Mitsui-Toshiba pavilion have their faces digitally mapped and imposed by a supercomputer onto characters in the film Grand Odyssey, which stars two computer-animated Japanese actors.

Mind you, everybody in the film seems to be wearing some kind of space helmet, but, still.

For a bare-bones explanation of how it’s done, see here.

One step closer to G.o.D..

March 29th, 2005 | Category: Growing Old Disgracefully

Rob rather swiftly posted something about the band’s rehearsal on Saturday. As he covered the goings-on, I plan to write a bit about other things involved with the music. Things are going swimingly as far as I am concerned. We are where we should be at this point, and I am very pleased with the band’s progress. The fact that both Mitch and Rosco have confirmed their prescence in the studio that weekend makes things even better. One thing that strikes me as interesting is the fact that the songs that are going to end up on the album are far more upbeat and positive than I expected them to be. The stuff is a lot more fun and catchy than I expected as well. Barring the last track with its rather metal sound, most of the songs are not even that heavy. I continue to rehearse at home to make sure that I will not be the weakest link at the studio.

I have to admit that last weekend’s sesssion was the most draining for me. I can’t remember being as mentally and physically tired as I was on Saturday night. I am sure it has something to do with the fact that I was editing on the fly as we rehearsed the newer songs I was singing. Furthermore, there is some more fluctuation in the tracks to be included on the album. There is a core that remains, but not all the tracks I thought would be on there will be. Still, as long as the lyrics are fairly well set by the time we hit the studio, I shall be content. Now if I could just come up with decent titles for the tracks…

A sure thing

March 24th, 2005 | Category: Politics

We’ve been bracing ourselves for Conservative defeat for a year now. A weak, opportunist leader, withering policies, and a passionately anti-Tory BBC have lead many of us into fatalistic predictions.

History, however, has other ideas.

Politics is littered with sure-thing electoral victories turning into routs. What passes for general-consensus in Britain, is often the views of middle-class, White, Leftists at the BBC and their London-based media friends. Such is the BBC’s domination. However, the deranged hatred for America, Jews, and Tories does not always stretch beyond certain London post codes.

All educated, intelligent folk knew boy-Bush was going to get thrashed in Afghanistan, defeated in Iraq, and trounced by Kerry. BBC studios heaved with well educated predictions of failed Iraqi elections, and American economic downfall after foolhardy tax cuts. Well, we know how that all turned out.

Howard has broken decades old taboos by saying in public what 90% of the population knows. On immigration, taxes, and now travellers, this Welsh Jewish tailor’s son has pushed a breech in Britain’s own ideological Berlin wall. Debate now flourishes, where once only Leftist thought police patrolled, ready to pounce on any public figure foolhardy enough to speak out.

It’s an awful analogy, but perhaps accurate.

The tabloids have been rather kind to Howard, the Sun seems to be backing both sides, agreeing with Howard butbeing kind to Blair, but the Express & Mirror are firmly on his side. There will, however, be widespread postal voting fraud. Three sets of Moslems in Labour councils have already been caught. How many weren’t.

Judging by the BBC/Guardian’s prediction record so far this century, I wouldn’t count on Blair III just yet.

Stern on the US

March 24th, 2005 | Category: €uropean Garbage

Well, from the evidence we are getting from David; they hate us.

Oh yes ,and Damian has details on how Hitler kept his people happy. Or to put it another way.

As such, most Germans saw Nazism as a “warm-hearted” protector, says Aly, author of the new book “Hitler’s People’s State: Robbery, Racial War and National Socialism” and currently a guest lecturer at the University of Frankfurt. They were only too happy to overlook the Third Reich’s unsavory, murderous side.

No points for guessing what song plays when you load her website.

Bonus fun fax: Doug Fieger, The Knack’s lead vocalist/rhythm guitarist, is the brother of Geoffrey Fieger, Dr. Jack Kevorkian’s attorney. You’d have to say that Doug definitely got the better of that deal.

I, Werewolf

March 23rd, 2005 | Category: Andrew's Tales, Politics

I’m eighteen years old, in college, and I lead a fairly normal life. I have all the normal teenager problems. I am continuously falling in and out of love. I worry about my grades, and I try to be accepted. As far as everyone else is concerned I’m just a student at Colby College. My roommates think I’m a little strange at times but that’s normal, too. They have figured out that I act odd during certain phases of the moon, but that’s as far as it goes, I think. The fact that I don’t leave the dorm at night for periods of time, and that happens to coincide with a certain phase of the moon, which just happens to be the full moon is not part of their line of thought.

In the winter, I have a bigger problem. There are a great many clear snow white nights. I try to watch TV or read where I can’t see the moon, but this ploy doesn’t always work. The moon has an immense pull on me, and it’s hard to control. I think I’ve not been out for a year or so, but I am not sure. There are certain nights when I cannot remember what I did…

MORE Disturbing News from Firey-Land

March 23rd, 2005 | Category: Bloody insane stuff, Crazy Government Stuff, UK Politics

Guido has learned of a number of disturbing developments in the nation’s fire services, not least that the new “rank/roles”, coupled with the much vaunted “Integrated” Personal Development scheme, are discouraging qualified fire service officers from entering the fire safety and prevention specialist roles. This is because their “managers” have decreed that they will lose their place in the queue for the ever decreasing number of promotions open to uniformed personnel. So instead, this vital role, one where, with the so-called “risk based” approach to take account of, requires a degree of professional judgement and expert knowledge of fire, is being handed out to “under represented” minorities and “other discipline candidates” (a euphemism for “no fire knowledge or experience”). Apparently those now in charge of our decimated fire services, the so called managers, are of the opinion that “any monkey can do fire safety as long as he sticks to the guide”!

Now which “guide” would that be?

Gareth requires a little help in spreading Paxo’s use of the phrase Scottish Raj to the wider world. Please be careful about how you link Scottish Raj, as we not only wish to use it as the anchor phrase, but make sure that we link it to the correct page.

So, let’s see if we can get Scottish Raj pointing to the correct page before Gordo actually changes his job.

BBC prejudice

March 22nd, 2005 | Category: The Media/BBC idiocies

Naturally the BBC has reported on the latest school shooting in the US in their normal sneering way. Implying that there was an epidemic of such events in the US. It struck me as amusing that they didn’t bother to mention that a Swedish school massacre was recently averted. Nothing like making a political point while reporting the news eh?

Speaking of prejudice, how come no one from BBC News London could be bothered to report on the anti-Ken protest that occured yesterday? Was it a case of it being Jews; so thus of no interest?

Stuff that deserves your attention

March 22nd, 2005 | Category: Blog gos

As per normal, BOMS is under the theme of Julie Burchill. The Britblog round-up is going strong as well over at Tim’s. Speaking of British Blogs; its gotten a bit more technical. The Bonfire is up and smoking away over at Overtaken by Events. Oh those people who would be considered gun nuts by the BBC have their own carnival up.

The Carnival of the Capitalists has come under the gaze of the lads over at Catallarchy. The original Carnival is up at Codeblue.

We have 2 Jewish blogs in the form of Menorah blog and American & Israelis. Israpundit is proposing a blog grouping opposed to disengagement

Meanwhile, I have posted about the Tories on BNN.

A new blog has been launched…and its called Strange Justice. Its a jolly good read.

From the bowels of GoD

March 21st, 2005 | Category: Growing Old Disgracefully

On Saturday the band got together, despite delays due to golf, getting lost, the final of the 6 Nations Rugby match (which Wales won), and the first sunny spring-like day. As a result Victoria train station and the roads were a tad crowded. At least one member of the band family took advantage of the weather, lyricist Jon P, together with other friends of GoD, spent the afternoon getting pissed having a barbeque. After the requisite jamming, we settled down to some work. During this time a track called ‘Deeds not Words’ found its way onto the album. Anything that was that easy to create and play would be silly to leave off. Rather then our normal bluesy AOR, this song is goth metal and sees me singing low & loud. I brought home the drum and keys track to rehearse with. In what seemed a few minutes, which was in fact an hour or so, Wolfie showed up and proved to us that he will be a great addition to the backing vocals. This above and beyond his arrangement for the studio and letting us crash at his place on the weekend of the recording. As per normal, quite a few of us are rather busy at the moment. While GoD:blog is up and going, the site is still being worked on by John. We have Michele’s hubby working on the CD cover and me already doing some PR for the band. It bears remembering that we shall be in the studio a month from last weekend. We are, however, making some good progress despite the various hickups. We will be ready to hit the studio with a fistful of finished tracks raring to go. I can’t wait to lay this stuff down.

Many thanks to Dean for linking to the site.

*! TODAY !*

March 21st, 2005 | Category: Anti-Semitism/Jewery, UK Politics

I hope as many of you as possible are coming to the Ken rally today:

Monday 21st 2:45 Tooley street exit of London Bridge tube station, moving to City hall for 3 pm

Update: I attended the event and about 50 people showed up for it. There were, surprisingly enough, no counterprotests. The turn-out ws not bad considering it was a Monday. They handed out flyers and had several good banners. Its good see a tight and well organised event for such a good cause.

Update II: Pollard reports that a Labour peer Lord Ahmed invited someone to speak who ranted against the Jewish controlled media in his talk. Melanie has more on Labour’s judenhass behaviour.

Those wacky Belgians…

March 18th, 2005 | Category: €uropean Garbage

I had sex with dogs for their sake, Belgian says:

BRUSSELS, March 18 (Reuters) - A Belgian man on trial for having sex with dogs claims he did it out of compassion for man’s best friend, a Belgian paper said on Friday. Daily Gazet Van Antwerpen said the 36-year old in the eastern Belgian town of Genk told the court he had sex with dogs “out of love for animals”, since a lot of them can’t have sex, especially those locked up in refuges. The man, only identified by his initials, could face six months in jail if convicted.  He had worked in an animal refuge before and had also posted thousands of pictures on the Internet of himself having sex with dogs, the paper said.

Well at least its better than having sex with children, at least. Gives new meaning to the term puppy love.

Yellow Submarine

March 18th, 2005 | Category: Amusements, Assorted links

lived a man who sailed to sea
and he told us of his life
in the land of submarines

the beatles

There doesn’t seem to be much of a point to this, but it is beautifully done. There’s a (somewhat yellowish) submarine and two islands and some sea creatures, and no secret passages or magic buttons that I can find.

So I’m guessing that it’s just a one-off project by some flash programmer exercising his chops.

Showoff.

(Note: There’s music and regular sonar “pings,” which may not be suitable for your office. Unless you work in an office equipped with sonar, like, say, in a submarine, in which case probably nobody will notice.)

Kids Don’t Follow

March 17th, 2005 | Category: Stuff

kids won’t listen
to what you’re sayin
kids ain’t wondering
kids ain’t praying

the replacements

New York Times:

WOBURN, Mass. - What tripped Lisa D’Annolfo Levey’s maternal tolerance meter on a recent Tuesday afternoon was not just the toy football her 7-year-old son, Skylar, zinged across the living room, nearly toppling her teacup. Or the karate kick sprung by her 4-year-old, Forrest, which Ms. Levey ducked, barely.

The clincher was the full-throttle duel with foam swords, her boys whooping and squealing, flailing their weapons at the blue leather couch, the yellow kidney-shaped rug, and, ultimately, their mother.

“Forrest, how about you come up and hug Skylar instead of whacking him in the head?” Ms. Levey implored. “This is stressing me out, guys. You can sword, but I’m feeling compromised here.”

A story on puzzled people who seem to have been the first ever to rear the exotic mammals known as “children.” To that end, they’re employing “parent coaches” at up to $75 per hour to walk them through the mysteries of why little Jasmine refuses to eat her peas. Or for that matter, why little Forrest insists on “swording” his big brother.

It all reminds me of something back in the 80’s. Toronto was at the time booming, and the Globe and Mail regularly ran puff pieces about upwardly-mobile yuppies and their glamorous careers.

One that I distinctly remember was a couple with the requisite Jag and Mercedes in the driveway and a Range Rover in the garage and boasted the fact that they had to employ not one, but two full-time nannies to manage their brood.

I guess we rubes were supposed to genuflect before these displays of wealth and privilege, but all I could think was: “Why do these people even bother having children? They obviously don’t have any time for them.”

(Note: Link above requires free registration, which isn’t too arduous — just a couple of questions, if I correctly remember. Or you could use something like Bugmenot to get a password combo.)

How did this get in?

March 16th, 2005 | Category: Middle East, Terrorism

Israeli forces reoccupied all the West Bank in 2002 after a spate of suicide bombings. Correspondents say their raids, checkpoints and travel restrictions have crippled Palestinian social and economic life.

Whilst underplaying the horrors of suicide bombs against civilians of the politically- sponsored and internationally funded intafada, in the same breath the link between attacks on Israel leading to restrictions on Palestinians is made. None but the most primitive and/or blinkered troglodyte could miss the implication: That the Palestinians have brought their situation on themselves.

Some copy editor must have been asleep for this to have been published by the BBC.
