Boris Has a Special Relationship With his own Ego

November 11th, 2004 | Category: Politics, UK Politics

After making a complete hash of criticising the Dianification of that bloke from Liverpool who had his head cut off by the Islamofascists by dragging in references to the Hillsborough disaster and accusing all Liverpudlians of being emotionally feeble, then undermining any credibility he had left by going on a forgiveness-begging tour of Liverpool, one would think Boris Johnson would have the sense to give it a break.
But no. Here he goes, in the Telegraph calling the whole special relationship between Britain and the U.S. into question. Presumably after the experience with Liverpool, he had the sense to clear this with his masters in Conservative HQ first, which can only mean Michael Howard approved the anti-American sentiment in the article.
After his flip-flopping over the war on Saddam Hussein, this further calls into question Michael Howard’s commitment to the Anglosphere and the Anglo-American alliance. The alternative, closer integration into the EU and all that entails, is being subtly promoted by such an approach and “useful idiots” like Johnson play straight into the EU’s hands. Is this the real agenda? Surely a set of politicians with real integrity would leave no room for ambiguity in their foreign policy statements.

As Usual - SPOT ON !!

Janet Daley always gets it in one, and this little gem is no exception. Being Remembrance Day, it is fitting that we remember the “why” of why those many mambers of all the Armed Forces died everywhere around the world in defence of our right to be free. Freedom from dictatorial rule includes the political sense, not just being free from physical confinement.

Lest We Forget

November 11th, 2004 | Category: War

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,

In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow

In Flanders fields.

John McCrae (1872-1918)

There must be a moral to this story from Anorak but I’m at a loss to work out what it is.
