Wake-up call for Howard & Co?

October 01st, 2004 | Category: UK Politics

The Conservatives managed a pathetic fourth place in yesterdays by-election, even losing out to UKIP. I suppose it could have been worse like if it were to RESPECT. The only hope they have is that new Labour MP may make such a vile acceptance speech that he might have hurt his party nationally.

One has to wonder if this will not be the clip around the ear that Howard and Co needs to get them going. It is a clear indication that their prospective voters are not impressed by their wishy-washiness on almost every issue going. They are clearly attempting to be all things to all people and it is clearly not working at all. Next week is the party’s conference where they need to try to figure out how to get out of the rut they have themselves stuck in at the moment. They have a very good leader in the form of Michael Howard; the trouble is that he does not have the best around him. There clearly needs to be shake-up in the shadow cabinet and Howard’s advisors. Despite all of Labour’s problems, Blair & Co will not hand the next election to the Tories on a silver platter. Right now that seems to be the only strategy that the Conservatives have to offer.

Bringing Redwood back was a good start, now lets see what else they have in store.

Let’s hope the Conservatives wake up and smell the coffee in Bournemouth. They are running out of time.

According to the Telegraph they seem to be doing just that. I agree with their assesment. Many of the suggestions in the DT post have appeared on this an other blogs in the past few weeks.

Footwear Be Important

October 01st, 2004 | Category: Politics

The Boston Herald:

Police say a man wearing a jacket that said ‘’FBI Anti-Terrorism’’ showed up at the [Rochester, N.H.] airport last Wednesday and began asking about airport entrances and security. He took off when Skyhaven employees chased him away from hangars and called police.

Police said airport personnel were immediately suspicious of the man, who was wearing flip-flops and could not produce proper identification.

I wonder what it was that tipped them off?
