It returns

May 05th, 2004 | Category: Blog gos

Blogcritics is back up after a few technical problems. It does strike me as rather amusing that Blogcritics melted down just after a vicious attack was launched on me by Mac Diva.

Swedes diss Ozzy

May 05th, 2004 | Category: Metal

Why you ask? What would the caring and sharing Swedes have against dear ole’ Ozzy? Well they think he is the unofficial Prince of Darkness. Would they prefer the official one?

An early Christmas

May 05th, 2004 | Category: Politics

Like idiots jumping on a burned out tank, the Left has gone bananas over those Iraqi mock torture pics; for some, Christmas had come early.

All armies abuse prisoners; the difference is we catch and punish the perpetrators, Arab countries promote them. Those accusing the Syrian army of abuse will find mock torture is not an option.

Strangely, the BBC and other quality Leftist outlets are remarkably laissez-faire over a few million slaughtered in Sudan, or tens of thousands rotting in Arab jails, but a few photos of American abuse and Western civilisation goes on trial.

The Guardian was particularly miffed.

Only two Middle East states allow its citizens to criticize its leaders and live: Israel and New Iraq.

Last week the Left went wild over an Israeli spy released from prison; from the jubilation and praise that flowed, I thought he was going to replace Nelson Mandela as the latest living saint. In the ME, only Israel would let this man live, only the Left would make him an idol.

Thankfully Naomi Klein (No Logo, no democracy for Arabs) has a plan to get us out of this mess.

Cannabis use up amoung Americans

May 05th, 2004 | Category: Drugs

Habitual marijuana use increased among U.S. adults over the past decade, particularly among young minorities and baby boomers, government figures show. The prevalence of marijuana abuse or dependence climbed from 1.2 percent of adults in 1991-92 to 1.5 percent in 2001-02, or an estimated 3 million adults 18 and over. That represents an increase of 22 percent, or 800,000 people, according to data from two nationally representative surveys that each queried more than 40,000 adults.” (05/05/04)

Scotland The Paved

May 05th, 2004 | Category: Announcements

far off in sunlit places,

sad are the Scottish faces,

yearning to feel the kiss

of sweet Scottish rain.
—trad.

We interrupt our (sort of) regular blogging to announce that there will be no blogging tonight.

Apart from this. Which doesn’t count as a true blog entry. It’s more like a Public Service Announcement.

Got a phone call from my sister. Their Internet connection is bollixed and my niece, Emily, needs some help with some research for a school project. Seems simple enough. She needs to know about the climate and vegetation of Scotland.

OK. I soon enough found a good page on the climate.

But vegetation? You’d think that somewhere on the Internet there’d be a nice little map that you could click on and the flora of Scotland would dance for you in full animated glory. You would be wrong.

The CIA Factbook, Wikipedia, the UN Food and Agriculture Office. The British Government, the Scottish Government.

Greenpeace.

Either nothing, or comingled with the total U.K. stats, or analyses of small woodlots attached to estates or — the few botanical surveys that really looked useful — in the JSTOR database, which you can’t access without a university subscription.

So I had to harvest the few scraps I found here and there:

“Wot’s this? ‘The Medicinal Herbs of Scotland’? Inna the hopper wit ye, me lad!”

Two hours later I had assembled enough random data to, I think, salvage Emily’s junior-high academic career.

It wasn’t a total waste of time. I did find a lot of really quite fascinating information, and if you’d like to know a bit more about it, well, look it up yourself.

Sheesh.

Blogcritics libel…

May 05th, 2004 | Category: Announcements

Andrew Ian Dodge is a member, quite publicly and proudly, of a group that believes people of African descent are genetically inferior. If Dodge had his way, America would be a “black-free zone.” Folks who are on the same page as him might want to give that some thought.

If Mac Diva doesn’t like you, she calls you a racist. Obviously this odious individual knows nothing about me or libertarianism.

Update: Mac Diva has continued her vicious slander against me. It is rather disappointing that there is one rule for most Blogcritics contributors and another for Mac Diva.

Dhimmi TV

May 05th, 2004 | Category: ROPMA

CH4 TV in the UK is now running something called Shariah TV. It tells you Muslims how to live their lives according to Sharia in Britian. Where is CH4’s program for Pagans or Jews?
