Music interruptus

Those of you who read my last piece will recall that last weekend was planned as a major advancement event. Well, we got quite a bit done but not what we had hoped or expected. The singers were unable to record a bloody thing as the program we are using decided that it wanted to crash and currupt the song we were working on. After John spent the afternoon rebuilding the song and re-installing the software, we spent some time rehearsing the song in preparation for laying the vocals down.

It became clear to Tom and me that the lyrics and the song didn’t really work. It wasn’t feeling right. As the lyricist, the song evokes a certain mood within me, and this version (If you are hard enough, have a listen.) just didn’t cut it. That is not to say John’s version is not good, but I just was not going for the Eagles vibe when I wrote the track. What was most interesting is that the music didn’t work in Tom’s head, either. So we have stripped the lyrics and music and have stored the tune away for another track. John didn’t attempt to kill either Tom or me, so we set about writing the music. With John on the Baby Grand and Tom & I singing the vocals, we tweaked the words to fit with the new music.

On Friday night, over a bottle of whiskey, Tom & I polished off another song to add to the pile of lyrics (15 songs at least count) we have. (Saturday morning Tom had the hang-over to prove it.) I am soon off to the pub to write another one. It was inspired by a chat we had amoungst the band members during a break in the pub (playing pool). Later Saturday evening we had fun blowing three shades of dung out of each in Nuclear Proliferation. Nothing like a few well-placed nukes to brighten one’s outlook. We also discovered, to our eternal peril, that Tom is one devious board game player.

In the interest of showing how hard we work as a band, below you will find some choice shots. This includes one of LCSM practicing what he will do when his fellow Stanford students take the piss out of him for being in a rock band. Feel free to write a caption of your own for any of these shots. The best ones will make into next week’s update.

This sounds best played loud on PC speakers. I’ve tried it on Hi-Fi and dosn’t work well – May have something to to with the fact that I mixed it in my home studio. Unfortunately, this is the mix that died due to technical and artistic differences.

[Oh god I want to re-record my vocal – mostly in tune but some bits drop out. :( ]

The “music” from the track is going to be used for another song/project. The lyrics are being altered to fit into the new, much harder and heavier, music which I’m writing at the moment.

    More from us shortly!

Andrew & the boys are busy making new music. He doesn’t like their latest track, but I think it’s pretty cool, and wish ‘em luck….
