Rep. Rape Enabler upset about Janet Jackson

February 06th, 2004 | Category: Politics

Radley has a distressing piece about a former Nebraskan head coach and current member of the House of Representatives. This pillock is upset about the Janet Jackson breast exposure episode. Of course, he didn’t seem to care that his athletes were rapists and violent criminals when he was a coach at Nebraska. He seems to believe there is one rule for jocks and one rule for musicians. Oh yes, and he is against booze advertisements during NCAA games.

Das Reichroaches

February 06th, 2004 | Category: Nutty stuff

The flat and house in which I live in London has acquired some unexpected guests from the Vaterland. We have an infestation of German Cockroaches. While they do walk in rather straight lines, we have yet to observe any black crosses on their backs. Although it is tempting to call in the RAF to handle this German invasion, we have instead opted for the services of Rentokill (a bloody good name). One does have to wonder if these German roaches have stolen all the good spots to spawn and forced out the local population of bugs. Rest assured, dear readers, we shall soon be using WMDs on these little Hun-bugs. We will fight them in the sink and on the kitchen counter. We shall never surrender.

A Sinking Feeling

February 06th, 2004 | Category: Andrew's Cthulhu tales

The Sage and Edin were quietly relaxing in front of a warm fire in their West Wales home. Andrew, for a change, was reading something entirely unrelated to his work. He was, as it were, reading for total pleasure for the first time in a very long time. He was reading a paperback copy of the latest from Tom Clancy. A book with not even a hint of the supernatural in it. It merely contained all sorts of rouges bent on destroying the United States and its allies. He often wondered what it would be like to live in a world where there were no Old Ones, daemons or other supernatural nasties. It might be pleasant but it would mean that he and his compatriots would have had much more dull and boring jobs.

Congestion Charge racist?

February 06th, 2004 | Category: Political Correctness

Ken Livingstone is second to none in his enthusiasm for political correctness. But, in the sweetest of ironies, even he has now fallen victim to the “inclusiveness” agenda to which he gives such prominence.

Red Ken recently ordered Greater London Authority staff to attend an “equalities training” course run by the 1990 Trust – an organisation “protecting and pioneering the interest of Britain’s Black Communities”.

However, the trust’s director, Karen Chouhan, used her lecture to attack Livingstone’s flagship policy of congestion charging.

“We were gobsmacked, to be honest,” says one GLA employee. “Chouhan solemnly informed us that congestion charging is indirectly racist. Her argument was that traffic has been displaced to places like Brixton, which have high ethnic minority populations.

“She added that a number of Asians’ livelihoods are under threat because small shopkeepers – most of whom are Asian – are in danger of going out of business.”

Chouhan has a long history in the race relations industry. She used to lecture at De Montfort University on Black Studies and is also involved with the National Black Caucus, the Race and Ethnic Diversity Research and Policy Partnership and the Coalition Against the Destitution of Asylum Seekers.

Her current post at the 1990 Trust was previously held by Lee Jasper, Livingstone’s chief adviser on race relations issues.

Jasper himself was unavailable for comment yesterday, and a GLA spokesman refused to answer questions about Ms Chouhan’s comments, merely insisting: “There is no suggestion that the charge impacts disproportionately on any racial community in London.”

This bit of schadenfruede comes from London Spy. Of course, when the Tories told Ken that the congestion charge would just hurt poorer people, he ignored them. Wonder if he is going to listen now that someone from the “race industry” has told him off.

Gimme Your Money Please

February 06th, 2004 | Category: Music

Well, this didn’t take long, did it? From The Smoking Gun, via Instapundit:

FEBRUARY 5—It took almost three days, but the first lawsuit has been filed in connection with Janet Jackson’s breast. A Tennessee woman yesterday filed a proposed class action lawsuit “on behalf of all Americans” who watched the Super Bowl halftime show and were somehow injured by Miss Jackson’s adorned nipple. In the below federal complaint, Terri Carlin, a 47-year-old Knoxville bank employee, contends that Jackson’s exposure and other “sexually explicit conduct” during halftime festivities caused viewers to “suffer outrage, anger, embarrassment and serious injury.” Details of those supposed injuries were not further described in the complaint filed by attorney Wayne A. Ritchie II. Along with Jackson, Carlin has named as defendants Justin Timberlake, CBS, MTV, and Viacom. Carlin’s complaint seeks compensatory and punitive damages, though an exact dollar figure is not specified. But it seems billions would be in order since Carlin notes that punitive damages should not exceed the gross revenues of all defendants for the past three years.
