Guess who comes out in defence of the Arsebishop?
Re: Misplaced and ill-mannered

Your criticisms of the Archbishop of Canterbury (Leaders, Dec 28), were misplaced and ill-mannered. You seem to think that spiritual guidance should not relate to matters of this world.
In warning of the dangers of the credit explosion, Dr Rowan Williams was reminding us of a long-standing biblical lesson that debt should be avoided as far as possible. Today’s widespread charging of usury is hardly a formula for greater social cohesion and is clearly exploitative.

Bruce had a nasty experience with Emirates Airlines and his kosher meal.
I was advised to contact the airline in Auckland. I did so on Monday, and was told that Emirates has a policy of refusing to accept requests for meals that meet Jewish religious requirements.
I was also told that Emirates is an Arab airline, so we dont really expect Jews to use us.
I was rather surprised to see Bruce, a Jew, flies Emirates in the first place. It does amaze me that they are so blatantly and publically anti-Jew. As one would expect Tim and Damian are all over this. It seems, like in the UK, that Emirates is a sponsor of a major sports team in Oz. This might be an interesting bit of leverage…that’s if you can get sports fans to give a damn about anything but their team.
Considering the level of interest this is generating in Blogdom, I doubt this over yet.
Update: Bruce is making progress with this issue. One of the interesting side affects is that quite a few people are learning what kosher actually means.

Since the year that Wales thought to make me their Sage, it has become marginally more acceptable to employ and educate people in the ways of the dark world. My role is to assist Wales in combating these forces. Considering that the purpose is defensive, it is hard for me to understand why these steps were not taken many years ago. But, I digress…

A woman aged 97 was rescued from the earthquake rubble of her home in the Iranian city of Bam yesterday, having survived for eight days without water or food.
The woman, seen by The Observer dozing comfortably in a makeshift hospital bed, was in remarkably good shape, according to Red Cross doctors who examined her.
‘She’s a little dehydrated but apart from that she has no complaints at all,’ said Dr Paul Odberg, chief medical co-ordinator of the International Federation of the Red Cross (IFRC) in Bam. ‘She has one complaint – she doesn’t like the intravenous needle.’
