God is a libertarian?
Well, at least Andy Duncan seems to think so. While Duncan has written a rather long piece on the subject, I happen to agree with every word of it. It is a consumate piece of writing that raises some interesting points. Of course, seeing as I am the author of Statism Sucks! Ver. 2.0, it’s hardly surprising, now, is it?!
Andy makes a case against a Christian being able to be a libertarian as well. This is a point which I have attempted to present with many a Christian. It usually begins with my assertion that tax is theft. Then the Christian proceeds to tell how it is moral for the state to tax to provide x & y for those less fortunate. I then explain how it is a protection racket which involves government instead of organised crime. Several Christian libertarians make an interesting case for there being such a thing in the comments section of the post. Much of the argument revolves around the interpretation of several of the commandments.
Andy has conveniently rewritten a few of the commandments to make them work better for libertarians and socialists. All in all, this piece is the type of thought-provoking essay that Samizdata is known for, and long may it continue.
