Ray of Hope
Despite the obvious inherent limitations, this radio call-in in Iran and America is very encouraging.
Whilst dissent and dissatisfaction are growing with the regime which is still beholden to the fundamentalist ulema, freedom of speech and the right not to fear goverment recriminations still seem to have been left out of Khatami’s liberalising program. He is constrained from above (and Above), but is it not time that, in light of this swelling sentiment, the US turned its eyes to help out what was once a friend, and one which, as the country with the greatest potential for democracy in the region (obviously excluding Israel, which has been since always) has been teetering on the brink of exciting things for some years now?
