Very Disturbed People About in the Night!!

November 07th, 2003 | Category: Politics

JFM had posted below about Jackie’s report on a recent meeting of the young folk at the ASI. Of course, within her post she had mentioned that a rather disturbing thing occurred whilst the group she was with was traveling from one event to another; she has now done a report on that episode of distateful and distressing behaviour on the part of nasty extremists who apparently also don’t mind misusing the disabled in cruel fashion for political posturing.

Major Geek dude!

November 07th, 2003 | Category: Technology

Thanks to Iain and the fact I have been booted off my main computer so )(ellfire can play Neverwinter Nights, I have taken the geek test.

42.80079% Major Geek

I agree with Iain that real ale drinking should be listed in the test. The amount of IT people I know who are also CAMRA members is very high. Eating Pork scratchings is another geek thing.

Rock the Vote= Rock the Democrats

November 07th, 2003 | Category: Politics

“The problem with Rock the Vote is that they are liars. They claim to be non-partisan when they are in fact run-of-the-mill young liberals who either use youth as a Trojan Horse in order to conceal a message nobody would want to hear from them otherwise, or they simply believe that youth and liberalism are synonymous and therefore bask in their own authenticity.” (11/05/03)

It has always been known that Rock the Vote was a front from the left. It was never non-partisan, since its inception. Its good to see Jonah exposing this con.

Virus bounty hunters?

November 07th, 2003 | Category: Technology

Microsoft Corp. yesterday put $5 million in bounties on the heads of hackers, hoping the prospect of cash rewards will help law enforcement’s sputtering efforts to arrest and convict people who unleash destructive computer programs. ... The first rewards would be for information related to finding and convicting those responsible for two malicious programs introduced earlier this year — the MSBlast.A worm and the Sobig virus. Microsoft will pay a $250,000 reward for information in each of those cases, [Microsoft spokesman Brad] Smith said.” (11/06/03)

This is a great idea, and kudos to Microsoft for doing it. Let the free market find the perpetrators instead of heavy handed coppers.

Nanny state meddles in home schooling

November 07th, 2003 | Category: Political Correctness

A Christian mother is appealing a judge’s decision that prohibits her from teaching her daughter that homosexuality is wrong. Cheryl
Clark, who left a lesbian relationship in 2000 after converting to Christianity, was ordered by Denver County Circuit Judge John Coughlin to ‘make sure that there is nothing in the religious upbringing or teaching that the minor child is exposed to that can be considered homophobic.’ Dr. Clark filed her appeal with the Colorado Court of Appeals last week.” (11/05/03)

Howard’s a rocker!

November 07th, 2003 | Category: UK Politics

Much has been said over the years about Tony Blair’s love of music, and how – as a long-haired university student – he played guitar in a band called Ugly Rumours. Now, a second cousin of Michael Howard reveals that the new Tory leader was also something of a wannabe rock star in his younger days.

Renee Woolf, who grew up with Howard in Llanelli, South Wales, tells today’s Jewish Chronicle: “Michael liked to play the guitar and played quite well. He loved his rock music with a great enthusiasm.’’

The young Howard seems to have been almost as interested in fashion as in music. The report continues: “He took baths in his jeans, hoping they would shrink so he would look like Elvis Presley.”

Well now that Howard has been outted as a rocker, maybe he might let CCO know that long-hairs in rock bands aren’t the spawn of Satan. He is welcome to join G.o.D. on stage any time.

Adams’ new book is a “bucketful of lies”

November 07th, 2003 | Category: Northern Ireland

Sinn Fein/IRA leader Gerry Adams’ new book is a “bucketful of lies” – an expression Martin McGuinness was recently quoted as using in the official transcript from the Saville Inquiry to describe assertions made about him during the inquiry. The truth is that McGuinness probably actually said “they’re buckin’ full of lies” (“buckin’” being a euphemism for something else).

Read the review of the book – this book is full of the evil, nasty Republican propaganda that people in Northern Ireland have to put up with: Republicans who describe children murdered in bombs as “collateral damage”. It is Assembly seat winning propaganda for Mr Adams, but it is propaganda nonetheless, and this book is definitely buckin’ full of lies.

Odds ‘n’ Sods

November 07th, 2003 | Category: Assorted links

Well, I don’t seem to have a lot of time tonight and tomorrow and the weekend are looking kind of iffy, so I thought I’d assign a bunch of reading. There will be a quiz on Monday.

I really start to see the light at the end of the tunnel . . .

Let me rephrase that. I start to get cautiously optimistic about Iraq when I see columns like this appearing in the Arab press. You also might want to look at Zeyad’s Healing Iraq, which I’ve blogrolled. He’s a young dentist in Baghdad, and he’s getting a lot of well-deserved attention.

Then for a change of pace, The Worst Album Covers of All Time, courtesy of Jonah Goldberg in The Corner.

And last but not least, a nice article in The Weekly Standard on bluegrass. I’m not much of an aficionado when it comes to country music (a true country music fan wouldn’t use words like aficionado, for starters) but I’ve always loved bluegrass, with its high lonesome tone and blistering instrumental virtuosity.

And with that, I am outta here. Have a good weekend, all.
