2 commentsA racist-free police? You never know…
David Blunkett has announced that membership of the BNP should preclude individuals from becoming a police officer. ‘But what about Free Speech and freedom of political affiliation?!’ some may cry. Of course, a democratic society must afford its citizens such freedoms, and political leanings should never normally be a criteria for employment, but… In the case of the BNP, membership of a racist, anti-Semitic and homophobic group such as this is not simply a choice of one political approach over another, it is subscription to offensive and abhorrent ‘values’, ones unwelcome in any organisation, especially not the Police, which is struggling to deal with this problem.
(There is one exception though. Surely membership of the Labour Party should be enough to disqualify someone from their job. Especially if it’s in politics…)

Iraqis are just now beginning to find their voices, particularly independent voices, each one unique and distinct, after having been silenced for so long. One gentleman in Baghdad has learned to speak firmly, loudly, clearly, and with conviction…and on the Internet, where his words ring with clarity.
He’s had it with the mealy-mouthed fraidy-cat lefties in “Big Media”! Just read this and heed his words, for he is voicing what many Iraqis are still very afraid to say out loud.
1 commentAnd a good time was had by all……..
AID, our fearless leader on this blog, took himself off to the meeting of the Adam Smith Institute’s ‘The Next Generation’ group, [pictured here in his usual aplomb]. However, if you want to read an excellent report of the evening’s activities, you’ll have to go to Jackie’s fine blog, as she actually reports the serious stuff, not just the liquid intake. New to that particular scene, she has a most refreshing viewpoint, too. Of particular note was her description of a most earnest group of young people: ... a swarm of young men in suits descended upon the building… .
Comments are off for this postPC loving trolls: unite!
This guy clearly has a bad case of computer envy. I have not seen such a load of rubbish since the last Den Beste anti-Mac rant.
Udolpho, we will try not to snicker when you are whingeing about the next virus to affect your beloved PC. Oh yes, and that the title of your post demonstrates your rational ability to discuss Apple products. Some of us care more about a stable, easy to use, and useful machine rather than penis envy wrapped up in mhz and fps comparisons.
Look, guys, you don’t like Mac, fine. Just don’t prattle on about what you don’t know about, trying to make yourself look clever. You just come over as jealous and idiotic.

Sign a citizen petition on behalf of Lt. Col. Allen B. West, U.S. Army, who was indicted last week on criminal assault charges for the psychological intimidation tactic he used to acquire vital intelligence from a captured enemy combatant in Iraq —intelligence that saved the lives of American soldiers facing imminent attack.

News Anchor Dan Rather, The Reverend Jesse Jackson, NPR Reporter Cokie Roberts, and an American Marine were hiking through the jungle one day
when they were captured by cannibals. They were tied up, led to the village
and brought before the chief. The chief said, “I am familiar with your western custom of granting the condemned a last wish. Before we kill and eat you, do you have any last requests?”
New Tory blog
It’s called Free Democrats, and I found it via Harry. Incidentally, Harry is having a bit of a blogger get together next week, and many of us will be attending.
1 commentKentucky Fries Democrats - and Mississippi throws a mud pie at them too
Two new GOP Governors – Rep. Ernie Fletcher (Kentucky) and Haley Barbour (Mississippi) – have stormed into office, beating their Democrat incumbents. This is particularly poignant in Kentucky given the Democrats’ 32-year stranglehold on the state governorship.
Over here in the UK, Guardianistas are almost convinced that President Bush will be kicked out by a tidal wave of anti-war sentiment. But there are indications, perhaps, from the results of these gubernatorial elections that these could be two states that will again back George W Bush. And there’ll be many more like them.
The alternative is an increasingly out-of-touch Democratic Party, with its motley assortment of presidential hopefuls (hopelesses, more like): even (Hillary knows she hasn’t got a chance this time, never mind Dean, Gephardt et al (‘The Nine Stooges’). This is the Dems, who are even trying to filibuster an excellent candidate for one of the judicial appointments – Janice Brown who is black but who doesn’t think the way the Democrats expect her to think.
The Democrats are out of touch and whoever is their presidential candidate in the end will be thrashed like the two Democrats who sought election in Kentucky and Mississippi.
And, after the results in the Senate race in Minnesota last year and the close contest in the 2000 presidential election, I suspect that Minnesota might just back President Bush too.

What to blog about, what to blog about . . .
I was going to write about the CBC’s latest atrocity, but I’ll have to wait until I cool down a bit. Maybe tomorrow.
In the meantime, let’s go with . . . funny names!
CNN has a real knack for hiring people with funny names. There’s Wolf Blitzer, of course, of Gulf War fame. Then in the Afghan War they had a stringer by the name of Kamal Hyder.
Camel Hider, geddit? Yes, yes, I know there aren’t any camels in Afghanistan. That’s because he was so good at hiding them!
Ba-DUMP!
Which brings us to Paula Zahn. (Pronounced ZON.) Now if you think about it, this is the perfect name for a TV personality.
“What’s on?”
“Paula’s on!”
It’s got a definite Abbott and Costello Who’s On First potential. Feel free to flesh it out.
Then there was one of their financial reporters, Willow Bey. Say it aloud.
How her parents must have howled with laughter when they picked that one out of the Big Book O’ Baby Names!
I don’t know when she ran away from home; but she ran away from CNN a few years ago and she’s on MSNBC or CNBC now.
Funny names! What would lazy bloggers do without ‘em?
