This lot are mad alright, totally insane more like.
To: Maya Angelou, Vanessa Carlton, Naomi Judd, Joan Lunden, Edward James Olmos, Serena Williams Re: MADD is not what you think it is … Now that you have lent your star power to Mothers Against Drunk Driving as members of its Board of Advisors, there’s something you should know … MADD’s agenda is to reduce alcohol consumption. Not among underage youth … Not just to prevent drunk driving, but to make it more difficult for everyone to enjoy adult beverages. MADD has outgrown its original mission, becoming a 21st-century prohibitionist organization.” (09/17/03)

2 commentsLibertarians try to protect smoker’s rights…
Opponents [of a proposed Louisville, KY smoking ban] gathered at the downtown government complex last night to let Metro Council members know they don’t want government telling them where smokers can light up. ... ‘I don’t smoke. I find it an obnoxious habit,’ George Baumler, a member of the Libertarian Party and an opponent of such a ban, said at the hearing. ‘A line is being blurred here over what is public and what is private.’ Donna Mancini, the Libertarian candidate for metro mayor last year, said she sees no difference between smoking and strong colognes.” (09/17/03)
I agree with the last point, never mind strong colognes, how about the Indian restaurant that makes the street beside it smell like a latrine? If that is legal then smoking should be legal too. I am one who finds smoke free pubs (even thought I don’t smoke cigarettes) most unappealling.

A federal task force formed to solve a rash of church arsons in 1998 is investigating a blaze that destroyed Second Presbyterian Church in Nashville [Wednesday]. ATF Special Agent in Charge Jim Cavanaugh said at a noon press conference that the fire is of a suspicious nature. He declined to say what led the ATF to classify the fire as suspicious, saying investigators have information about the blaze that they are not releasing. (09/17/03)

1. I am Paul (ne Saul) of Tarsus, a saint of a fellow (enc. glowing reference from the Thessalonians, Rick and Vera), and a deeply embittered claimant regarding an incident on the road to Damascus, your file #513-4B-8012.
2. While approaching Damascus, a blinding light DID envelop me, and I DID become one with the ground, in the process sustaining multiple abrasions, contusions, wounds, traumas, e.g., my right ankle, which will now torment me ‘til the end of my days and likely beyond, though this is a matter of some theological debate. And I HAVE since been plagued by vivid and troubling Vietnam flashbacks, all the more unsettling in that I’ve never been to Vietnam. And my ankle is still very, VERY tender. Not that I’m complaining or anything.
2. And my boyhood dreams of attending matador school ARE shattered and lain waste.
