In case you thought only Islam had its deranged fundamentalists

September 06th, 2003 | Category: Religion

Here is a shot of some of morally retarded Christians who went to support their new “hero” Paul Hill. Course the most depressing thing is these wingnuts are breeding. Surely someone could find a passage in the bible to convince fundamentalist idiots like these not to have children!

Nutcases plan to gather in Berlin

September 06th, 2003 | Category: Politics

Not only are Germans buying a book blaiming the CIA for 9/11, but they are planning to host a conference of anti-American and anti-semitic lunatics in Berlin. The last time Berlin saw so many hate-filled maniacs get together, it led to 6 million++ people getting killed for being different. I wonder what nasty incident will happen thanks to this conference. And will we hold the German government at least partly responsible?

Tom Paine also takes these idjits to task, as well as helpfully linking to their website. Comments are off for this post

Has-been speaks to Conservative Future

September 06th, 2003 | Category: UK Politics

London Eye reports:

Tory leader Iain “The Quiet Man” Duncan Smith is having, even for him, a quiet time in the run-up to this year’s Tory party conference in Blackpool. He might do well to be more pro-active, though. For signs are that his old leadership foe Ken Clarke hasn’t yet given up hope of getting his mitts on the top job.

Clarke will address today’s annual Conservative Future get-together, after IDS turned down an invitation from his party’s youth wing to make the keynote speech

“We know that Iain has had a really, really busy summer’s fishing,” says one source, “but if he’s not interested in us, then let’s just be happy that other Tory MPs are.”

Let’s hope one of the less sycophantic young Tories verbally pummels Clarke for his stance on Europe and against the war. I don’t think Clarke has any opinions that my young Tory friends would agree with. He is yesterday’s man who doesn’t know how to bow out gracefully.

More good news for PC users…

September 06th, 2003 | Category: Technology

Another flock of security alerts have been issued by Microsoft for a “critical” flaw affecting many of its Office applications, a report said Thursday. The most serious flaw, in the Visual Basic for Applications software, could allow an attacker to gain control of a vulnerable PC. VBA is used to develop desktop applications that tie into other Microsoft products, CNET News said.” (09/05/03)

A sensible Christian speaks out against Moore

September 06th, 2003 | Category: Religion

Chief Justice Roy Moore is apparently a man of devout faith. I commend him for that. I am a Christian as well. He is not, however, any sort of legitimate figurehead of political or religious martyrdom as many on the political right try to make him out to be. Justice
Moore has created an unnecessary controversy that has the potential to undermine the testimony and work of millions of normal Christians all over America. Even if Moore wins his appeal to the United States Supreme Court, he is setting a dangerous precedent of government interference in religion.” (08/27/03)

Politicians and cops for pot

September 06th, 2003 | Category: Drugs

Toronto’s five major mayoral candidates admit that they have inhaled in the past and all but one support the decriminalization of pot.
Only [Tom] Jakobek, against decriminalization …. said while it makes sense to ease pot laws for medicinal purposes, he does not want to see the crime of possessing marijuana struck from the books. ‘The effects on the lungs are just as bad as cigarette smoking and I wouldn’t want to promote cigarette smoking,’ said Jakobek.” (09/04/03)

Now retired after a 26-year career with the New Jersey State Police, Cole is leading a new group of current and former law-enforcement officials who are similarly disillusioned with the war on drugs.
Called Law Enforcement Against Prohibition, or LEAP, this nationwide organization takes as its premise that the war on drugs is, as Cole puts it, ‘a total and abject failure.’(09/04/03)

Title, title, what’s the title…?

September 06th, 2003 | Category: Stuff

I’ve been getting a lot of hits on The Blog Quebecois on the pizza-bomb guy. Depending on the search phrases I rank from 1 to 5 on Google, Yahoo, etc.

It seems that everyone’s looking for pictures. Well, I did link to the CNN site, which has the FBI-released pictures of the collar and the locking device, but I sense that people are looking for darker stuff; either the actual explosion or autopsy photos.

Sorry to disappoint — but, hey, I’ll take traffic anyway I can get it. And sometimes you’ll get someone coming in on a search and sticking around to read three or four pages, and occasionally a new regular out of it.

It’s a crapshoot.

Back in January I was the first person (At least as far as I know. I’ve haven’t seen an earlier reference than mine) to blog the “Going to war without the French is like going deerhunting without an accordion” quote.

It was from Jed Babbin on CBC’s The National (he also used it on Chris Matthews’ Hardball the same night), and I thought — now that’s funny, and sent it up to the blog a couple of minutes later and promptly forgot about it.

About a week later my hit counter started lighting up, and it continued at a good pace for the next month. I probably killed some false attributions to the likes of Ross Perot and Norman Schwarzkopf.

It’s here if’n you don’t believe me. You might want to also take a look at the two quotations below.

If you think that George Bush is an inarticulate boob, you should see what Canadians have been stuck with for the last 11 years.

And no, he’s not much better in French.
