Irish Republicanism’s anti-semitism
A leader in the Telegraph today details IRA/Sinn Fein’s history of anti-semitism in brief. Despite what Irish-American SF supporters will tell you, leading members of the movement were pro-Nazi during the war and no doubt aided the Germans in their attacks on Belfast Docks. In fact one of their number was killed on a U-Boat (and buried with full Nazi honours). However this is the most disturbing thing in the piece:
Eamon de Valera, neutralist head of government during the Second World War, objected when the Irish Independent printed pictures of Belsen after the liberation of the camps…
In my experience, if one were to replace “the British” with “the Jews” in Republican (Irish) literature it reads like a typical Islamofascist rant against Israel.
While on the subject, I was carpeted by a pro-SF type on the Pagan Conservative list. He objected to my criticising O’Reily for his pro-SF views. Here is my response. He has yet to respond.
Sinn Fein is the political arm of the IRA. You do not support one without the other. That is like saying I support FATAH but not the al-Axa brigades. I think the point was highly relevant. He bleats on about other political organisations with a military wing, while he supports one himself. Its called hypocrisy, its very simple.
Never mind the fact that Sinn Fein’s policies are highly socialist and about as far away from being “Conservative” as possible.
It funny you should say you support a united Ireland. In all my travels to Ireland proper, I have yet to find one Irishman or woman who wants the “counties”. Unless you plan to “ethnically cleanse” the North (which some people support, mostly in the US), you will just transfer the troubles from the UK to southern Ireland. Ireland could not support the cost of security of the counties for even a year.
NB: I think the so-called “loyallist” paramilitaries are just as bad as the republican ones. I do however, support the protestants and the Union.
It has always angered and frustrated me that a significant rump (though less now) of the Republican (US) Party is pro-Sinn Fein and even pro-IRA. Not only that, but Republicans in states like New Jersey, Massachusetts and Illinois frequently organise events to raise funds for the “cause”. While condemning Islamic terrorism these arsehats raise funds for terrorists in Ireland.
6 commentsChristians and the free market
“Those of us who know some economics are used to wincing when the typical clergyman makes a pronouncement on political economy….So it comes as a bit of a shock to read these religious figures, avowedly concerned first and foremost with justice and Biblical standards, and find that not only are they economically literate but that in many cases their economic theory was far more advanced than many professional economists who came after them.” (07/14/03)
Most Christian clergymen I have heard from are out & out socialists, if not worse. Of course, it doesn’t help that I still have memories of those “liberation theology” arsehats kicking around Latin America (and American universities). For the most part, clergymen should keep schtum about economics. People go to church for spiritual renewal, not hear some rant on the evils of globliisation.

1 commentCannabis saved my life!
“A rabbit’s foot, a wedding ring, a photo of the kids — the little things in life that people keep close by. For Angel McClary Raich, it’s a blue-and gold-flecked glass pipe packed full of sticky green marijuana. ‘My whole life depends on cannabis,’ the gaunt 37-year-old says unapologetically …. Raich, the wife of a prominent Oakland attorney and mother of two teenagers, is a medical marijuana patient. .... Diagnosed with a laundry list of ailments, including an inoperable brain tumor, scoliosis, wasting syndrome, seizures and
chronic pain, Raich has no choice but marijuana.” (07/13/03)
