This afternoon I am off to the States for the first time in over a year. I am having a holiday for a couple of weeks, visiting a close friend in NYC. I will, of course, be going to ground zero, and I plan to attend the forthcoming Blogger Summit in NYC. I expect to pop up to Maine to see my canine offspring, Vera. I know she will be happy to see me after such a long time. Not a day goes by when I do not miss my wolf look-alike.
Posting will not be as much as normal, but I shall leave you in the capable hands of MommaBear. Rumour has it that Frank Sensenbrenner is back on the scene, and we might finally hear from the elusive Ian Bacchus. Come on, Ian, you are suppose to be a shit-hot rock manager; surely you must have something to blather on about!

Matthew d’Ancona weighs in on the row of Duncan Smith’s leadership. It is most interesting to hear that IDS believes “a handful of malcontents” are behind the rumblings. Since when has 140 backbenchers been considered a handful? Surely that means that Blair has a “slight” majority in the commons and Saddam is a bit of bother?
Max Hastings, typically, is less than blunt in his opinions on this matter, with this most apocalyptic of headlines; Time is already short – IDS must go now! Max is a disenchanted Tory who wants to feel “wanted” again, Oddly he suggests no alternative, which is rather unhelpful for the party.
