From the wisdom of Mommabear:
11 September 2002
Today is a day of many memories; a one-year memorial, a day to reflect. Bracketed as it is in the 10-day period of reflection and mourning of the Jewish High Holidays, how fitting in all ways!
But it should also be a celebration of LIFE, today. We live free because we not only remember the dead, how they died, and at whose hands, but we do not let the memory of them and how they died paralyze us into submission to terror.

We are determined to use those memories as vindication of our righteous pursuit of freedom from terror, using any and all means at our disposal. Those who would nay-say should just be quiet and keep out of the way. We will honor those who died, not only by our words but by our actions; our actions will speak louder than words and accomplish much.

I just posted a couple reviews over on BlogCritics. In the post today I got new CDs from Saxon, Mob Rules and wait for it Rising Force! Not a nu metal piece of cow dung in this lot. Oh yes, and just in case you thought we hard rockers didn’t have a soft n’ mellow side, got the new Norah Jones as well.

The Beeb seems to be amazed that philosophy is influencing the development and gameplay of computer games. This is news? Game designers have been trying to use philosophy and strategy for their AIs since the dawn of computer games (such as Sun Tzu, Clauswitz and Crowley). Another big influence on game dynamics and the AI is Nietsche, ranging from in the awesome Deux Ex to titles like Kingpin.
If you are trying to design an AI that properly behaves as close to a human as possible one needs a grounding in philosophy and behavioural sciences, with a little dash of chaos theory. I know many gamers, including me, who get annoyed with a game when it does something uncharacteristic to the role the AI is suppose to be playing. AIs that are too perfect, too stupid or too predictable detract from a game and can even make a game unplayable.Furthermore, with the advent of online/multiplayer gaming (except where prohibited like Greece), gamers are demanding so-called “bots” that can help them practice for vs. human play. Games like Unreal Tournament and Quake 3 have bots that can be quite a challenge and can be a great training ground for would-be online gamers.

Natalie Solent has a neat little round-up of the sexism in blogging row. As you can probably tell, both Mommabear and I have managed to get ourselves in the middle of it. Alas, MB is buggering off to the woods until Friday. Of course, one would expect a bear to go to the woods on occasion.
Peter has a post on the subject, saying pretty much what I said to the initial debate on this subject.
It is ironic that I am in the middle of such a row/cat-fight, since this blog has at least two female contributors (and one editor), and my blog-roll has quite a few women bloggers (10 to be precise).
